Noone was hurt. My 9 year old son and I were in it when it started - just
finished filling it with gas. I had gotten it away from other vehicles and
was having trouble keeping it running when I smelled/saw smoke. We got out
and I had time to try and put out the fire myself - it got ahead of me so
the fire department arrived 10 minutes later and took over. The fuel tank
didn't go, or it would have been a much bigger event/mess.

Anyone who is interested in anything from it - PM me. I'm at least pulling
the generator and airbags from it, maybe the wheel covers and bumpers.

Clay

Clay,

That is so sad, I hope nobody was hurt.

Very sad, but with your boy there it could have been much worse. Thankfully you are both safe. You'll be talking about that day to HIS boy someday!

Another plug for fire suppression systems. One time expense, lifetime of
security. Doesn't hurt to keep a couple of those AFF extinguishers
throughout the coach. I have them in all my vehicles, kitchen, garage,
shop etc. As a last result, I have backup dry chem units too.

Got to concur on this. I bought one of Jim Bounds fire suppression systems
for the engine compartment last year. Easy to install and dumps the whole
bottle right on top of the motor and header area. Knock on wood that I
never need it. Glad Clay and his son escaped with no injuries. Sad to see
anyone involved in something like this.

I might have put one of these on had I known about it. Strangely enough, a
fire was my greatest fear for my unit based on a fuel leak after swapping
in the injector system.

I may be Scandinavian and a little slow to learn, but eventually a bright
idea penetrates. I called Jim Bounds this morning and opted in to his
project and ordered an engine compartment system. I rarely use my GMC, it
sits in the shop most of the time. All the more reason to be concerned about
potential fire hazard, so next week we'll install the system and put a long
nagging issue to rest.

Sorry that it took another devastating fire to make it happen.

It's hard to spend that kind of money on something that you will likely
never use, but just like you it took someone else having a coach burn up
before I ponied up the cash a few years ago.

It does feel pretty good just having it sitting there, doing nothing. :^)

Clay, your account doesn't seem to be accepting PMs. You'll want to change that so anyone who is interested in any parts can actually contact you.

Yeah - I'm subscribed to the mailing list - not the site. And when I tried

:-) I'll try to get it fixed.

You don't need to register, you just need to log in. Use the same userid and password you use to manage your profile on the mailing list.

I have Jim Bound's Engine System Foam and also a 2 lbs. in the coach. Note to self, when doing work on engine, account for all tools prior to starting. An easy way to find the missing small screw driver is to follow the smoke to the new Thor Header. They fit nicely among the pretty pipes. Two other precautions I have taken are line the engine compartment in aluminum sheeting and installed a high temp gauge in the floor to tell me the engine room temperature. I also carry a two lb. standard in the toad. Smoke Alarm and Carbon Monoxide detector are also armed and ready. Next up the generator compartment and frig.

Sorry about your loss, but real glad you are safe.
