Check the air conditioning section in the GMC motorhome service manual. It tells how much for the compressor and how much to add for other components replaced.

Are you sure your compressor came without oil? Many come filled with either mineral oil or snethetic ester oil for r-134a. DO NOT USE a compressor with ester oil unless you are replacing everything.

I got the compressor out and drained it of oil. I got alittle over one once out. I don't have a service manual. I didn't find any leaks with my electronic leak detector, or any signs of oil at O rings,or on hoses. The instructions that came with the compressor said that it came with shipping oil, and it said don't drain. Didn't say how much oil was in the compressor. Did mention to check service manual for how much the system needed. Now what? Bob Dunahugh

Your first question should be: What kind of oil did they put in the compressor?

After that the answer to your posted question is in the GMC maintenance manual in the AC section. Mine is in my coach and it is not here so I can't look it up for you. I believe Billy has the maintenance manual available on his site bdub.net .

I found the manual on line. Click on the following URL:

Bob, Ken is your man here. He and I worked on mine twice. What he says is what I would do. We did mine last at his hanger a couple of years back and it still blows cold.

It is perfectly OK to drain the compressor even though the tag says not to. The tag is only for a dealer to make sure that the compressor is not stored on a shelf with no oil.

I would be very concerned to find out what kind of oil was in it. If it was synthetic (ester) oil then it would have to be flushed out before using the compressor in an R-12 system which has mineral oil.

You can use Durocol with either oil but the two oils are not compatible togeter.

I am sending some info to you from the Maintenance manual which tells how much oil to install.
