I'm doing a bit of creative writing. One can't use a VistaCruiser for a
source of an engine, correct? HAS to be a Toronado, if you don't want to do
a bunch of fabrication?

Robin,
I don't think it's a lot of fabrication, more like swapping parts, like the intake manifold, oil pan, and exhaust manifolds. Everything else should fit on the engine. A rwd transmission won't work at all, of course.

Well the 455 that I had in my beautiful '72 Vista Cruiser was a 455, same as the coach. Different oil pan and carburetor, but I think it would certainly act as a nice mill. The motor mounts attach to the same place on the block and all the attachment points for the accessories are there.

Ok, so official a person had a working VistaCruiser and a complete GMC with
a locked up motor, they could drop in the Vistacruiser engine but use the
GMC oil pan and intake and other parts?

Assume my protagonist knows Oldsmobiles inside and out, has a nice shop,
but not much money. :)

List - was there a Motorhome specific camshaft? I don't remember if there was anything specific about the Motorhome engine except for the carburetor.

Hi Robin

You need to check the oil pickup tube as well, I was under the impression the Toronado pan was deeper so the oil pickup tube may be
different.

Ok great! Sounds like it will work without resorting to dramatic license. :)
