I just saw a clip, and I am already underwhelmed.
They left the steel wheels on it......

I'm going to record it, so if you missed it and really want to see it, we'll figure something out.

I would've changed the wheels too. However, I think this guy is using it as
a food truck sort of thing. He's got specific needs, that are different
from most of ours. :-)

If the article I read is correct he also had to put $20,000 into it before
it even got to the TV show. Ouch!

Well, I guess they kept steel wheels to paint them red for the fire truck scheme.

Wonder how much additional weight was added to it, with all that diamond plate?
Hate that with their budget that hey kept the 16.5 inch steel wheels. Putting lipstick on a 16.5, it's still a 16.5.

They also left in the old dash and air valves. At least they could have gotten a Mac Dask, some good instruments and Slatten valves.

Mary's response was interesting, "There is no way I would let them near Chaumiêre." "The last thing I'd want to do is put my bare feet on that cold floor." "Well, maybe to paint her."

As near as I can figure right now, it is about 14 minutes of program time. I have it on DVD, but I'm not going to edit it.

We just watched it. It was pretty cool, but not as functional as the stock floor plan used to be. It was mentioned early in the show, that they were building a food trailer to tow behind the "Canyonlands". I didn't get the impression that they were really planning to use the GMC as a 'food truck'. Funny that at no time did they call it a GMC. It's also funny where they spent their budget.

The polished aluminum diamond plate is likely a pretty light gauge and therefore probably adds more bling than weight. I think polished alloy wheels would have fit in with the 'firetruck' motif even more that the red painted steel wheels. I suspect a change to aluminum wheels would have cancelled out the added weight of the diamond plate. The metal cabinets probably saved some weight as well.

The diamond plate is lightweight plastic, its not aluminum.I got Futura Scramblers in 2 days right at the local Pep Boys 7 16.5 mounted and balanced and installed for just over $500.The tires were $84 each.I cannot believe no treatment to the windows.I also
would have thought the Square headlights would have been on their to do list.I feel the headlights and some of the bumper and grill upgrade combos just take any 70's GMC
into at least the 90's..The awning was cool! I would have kept that window and screen
they broke. And what about the headboard storage? And what did they do with the water tank under it? Anyways still cool!!!

If you sat down to watch them do a real "restoration" on a GMC I can understand why you were let down.  That was not the intent of the show, they were making things that look good on camera.  They had no input from the GMC community though I offered when we drove that Cabana to them for the show.  I don;t know but a pile of people in LA feel they do not need help from anyone!!  Anyway, they did what I expected-- nothing having to do specifically with a GMC was addressed, they hung off the beast the usual and had no idea about the rest of it.  Hey, it WAS pretty entertaining for us and for other people but for different reasons.

THEY REPAINTED THE REAR PANEL UNDER THE REAR WINDOW!!!     That is an embossed padded panel, may look OK but WE know it's hanus 40 year old fiberboard with ancient pad stuck to it.  We use those as "poor mans creepers"!  I would not put diamond plate on the floor, I like to walk around in my coach bare footed!  The diamond plate on the exterior is nice but how do you wrap that look around the front and back-- simple you don;t and you leave it looking unfinished.  I betcha they learned and will stay with square motorhomes in the future.  With nothing square and level, it's tough redoing a GMC.  The one comment one of the techs said "this was a tough build" is probably the mose real thing on the show last night.  I wrote up some other things on my daily pose-- go take a looksee.  Bottom line is this really shows why you need to take your GMC to someone who knows the coach.  Taks it somewhere else and you may get red paint and diamond plate!!!

I wish someone had the time to spend with the two Jims and film actual rebuilds. Then we could have it for our future owners. Would take a long time and lots of editing but I think it would be worth it. Maybe several folks could spend time with these guys filming and getting the real explanations as to why. It might not be as "colorful" as a tv show but would be well worth our time.

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car, understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Hp is how fast you hit the wall, and torque is how far you take the wall with you when you hit it.

From today's Pose:
"If you noticed, they never showed the coach stright on from the front, that Garrard awning they put on would make the front of the coach look terrible. It's designed to be mounted to a wall structure. It had to be supported by a huge, nasty looking bracket to work."

We installed a new engine, transmission and final drive for the owner and
did it at cost as I was told that they would give us credits.
I did not see that, I will let him know that I was lied to by him.
I see why Jim B does not get suckered in by these people that want things
don cheap at our expense.
I even gave him the new style wipers. They looked good as I personally
mounted them and they left it alone.
