"A new radio system being installed at Fort Gordon to enhance emergency communications across the area is causing mass frustration with hundreds of homeowners who have been locked out of their garages because of jammed remote-control signals."

Here in NC, I have trouble with the garage door going nuts when the AWACs come to run laps in the flight pattern.

The clue to this affair is written in the article. Consumer grade units are operating in a military frequency band. They are unlicenesed users of this piece of the spectrum. The purchasers did receive this information when they purchased their garage openers, etc. I admit that it is in the fine print. FCC part 15 rules; consumer unlicensed operations are at the bottom of the pile.
As more and more uses for the limited spectrum, there will be more of these conflicts. The garage door openers can be protected from interference, but most people would balk at additional costs. Be careful what you say around your baby monitor. LOL

Tom, you got that right. Neighbors used to jam my scanner with their baby room monitors. So funny to listen in after dark. Very Happy

This particular mashup of Google maps and insecure webcams has shut down but there have been plenty of others.

We run five RF plants via unlicensed spread spectrum microwave systems, using 2.5 and 6GHz bands.  They've run fine for 12 years so far... but we live in fear of the day other RF generators begin to appear and we start taking his on these systems.  Dunno what we will do at that point.  We back them with i.p., but we really have to have a deterministic path.
