If any of you have an FMCA membership you might want to consider signing up for their travel assistance and medical evacuation plan.

Some parts of the plan are free such as arranging things for you, arranging for eyeglass replacement, arranging and shipping of prescriptions, hotel and flight rebookings, emergency cash advance, Legal and Bond assistance, etc., but if you want them to pay for medical transportation, sending of remains, sending a family member to assist you if you are hospitalized, returning your motorhome to home, returning your toad home, etc. then you have to pay the annual fee of $85 for an individual or $105 for a family. They even pay for the fuel and driver for the return. If you want a friend to do it they will pay the fuel and tolls and pay $100 per day to your friend. This even covers your grandkids if they are traveling with you. They told me it would also cover other adult family members that are traveling with you.

I just signed up for this because my wife and I are taking an Alaska cruise in July. The travel agency suggested similar insurance but it is much, much more expensive and would only cover the one trip. The FMCA plan is good for a year.

You do not have to be in your motorhome for the coverage. For example, it will also cover the trip we will take next week flying to Michigan to attend a Grand daughter's high school graduation.

My mother died in Florida in January and it cost a lot of money for my father to have her remains shipped back to Michigan. He is a life member of FMCA but neglected to sign up for the insurance when they changed the plan and no longer made it free as part of the membership.

I think the $105 is a real bargain for what they cover.

As we are all getting older it might be more important for us to have this coverage.
You can find out about it at:

G'day,

I may be demonstrating an acute grasp on the obvious but if you travel to foreign countries be aware that Medicare and/or Medicaid
do NOT cover you.

I ran into a slight tangle with that last year.

There is one exception to that rule of Medicare not covering foreign travel. The exception states that if you are traveling between two US locations by the most practical direct route they will cover you.

But.... Some government bureaucrat makes the decision on whether they will pay or not and you have no avenue to appeal their decision.

So if you are traveling from Detroit to Niagara Falls and get sick in London or Hamilton, or Fargo to Fairbanks they "might" pay the bill.

FMCA does offer a daily travel policy for trips like those above.

Ken,
Sounds like you might need an old age clause the way your luck has been
going. This is a good plan and than both you and Emery for the thumbs up.

this insurace looks as if it only helps do things but not pay for it. ???? does this insurance policy do anything but

call people to help you and you pay for it?

https://www.sevencorners.com/brochure/SC_FMCA_Assist_Voluntary_2012.pdf

i suppose 85 dollars is worth arrangements being done when you can't do them in a coma.

Keep reading. The first part details what they will do for all members such as making arrangements but you pay for it. Then the write up discusses the option of signing up $85. for an individual or $105 for a family (I have my wife and 3 children and 4 grandkids listed as Family. )
Then they will make arrangements and also pay for many things. I think you still have to pay for your jail bond, though!

No, it doesn't cover your motorhome. That is why you have a motorhome insurance policy. You do, don't you?
