This Friday and Saturday I will be going from the Orlando FL area to Gainesville GA and need some advice on which routes to possibly take.

When I was working I made many trips to Alpharetta, Marietta, and Kennesaw GA and always did it in about 7 hours blazing along in a car via the interstates (I-75, I-285, etc) and GA400.

Now on this trip I want to take the GMC and do a leisurely, relaxing trip. My plan is to take I-75 and get to about the Tifton, Adel, Cordele GA area on Friday, stay at a campground overnight, and then continue on to Gainesville GA on Saturday.

The second leg of this trip is where I need advice. Should I:

1. Continue on the interstates, GA400, 53 (Dawsonville Highway),
or
2. Go east of Macon, through Madison, Athens, etc. on some US highway(s) and stay east of the Atlanta area eventually ending up in Gainesville.

If, on the "back roads" there are lots of stop lights and traffic jams then it's less stressful to just take the interstate (which I've already seen too many times) but maybe some of you can recommend a good "scenic route" that would be more interesting than 8 lanes of 80 mph traffic but also would not wear out my transmission by making it shift a million times.

Thanks in advance for any help.
