Here's a few more pics from the Hamilton, OH work rally. Craig L. was rebuilding his steering; Tom B. was replacing his outer CV boots; Bill B. was getting a new steering column; Jim C. got new body pads; John P. found some oil leaks; Bob B. found the problem with his (car) A/C; and there were a number of minor problems solved.

John,
You did a great job at capturing the flavor of the rally.
BTW we did not get all of Bob's AC leaks fixed until late afternoon the next day.
On the way home I stopped at Blaine's Florida room and spent all day Monday with Blaine and Diane's and help working on my "coach".
We dropped the transfer case and replaced a double lip seal between the transfer case and the trans. It was another long day and it would never have happened without their help and their 4 post hoist.
So what goes around helping others comes back with help from them. I got home at midnight Monday. Today's project is unloading the scales, tools, and rest of the stuff from my Blazer.

Dang it Ken, I was suppose to hang around and help you do that. My mind is gone, I got up Sun and shagged home. By the way thanks for repairing my AC, worked great all the way home. I did think about you, just forgot about the Blazer.

Thanks Dan, I think Jim was driving. That OSU coach is sweet, They drove 14 of us to dinner in it Fri night. You probably forgot about the flash to pass feature that you haven`t hooked up yet. He can play with his lights without turning them on.

I sure like my modern column that he built and installed. Sure do miss being at that rally. One of the best.

After spending three days there working on stuff there I was not up to doing it so I did not mention it to you. I decided mine could wait until later. (Actually I did not do much on Friday as that was the day we usually went to Trester's. For some reason that got dropped this year and the rally got shorten by one day.) I left there at 5PM Sunday after making sure we got everything fixed on the few projects I worked on. It looks like we finally found all of Bob's leaks so we did a final charge on his Sunday afternoon and it is holding.
On mine it was a much easier job on Blaine's hoist with a transmission jack. I was headed there to pick up a canoe and did not think about doing it there until I was driving to his place Sunday night.
It is a good thing that we did not attempt it at Hamilton as it turned out to be a bigger job than I thought. I was told 2.5 to 3 hours but the three of us took much longer. I was told it was 90 pounds but after removal Blaine estimated it at 60 pounds.
By the time the three of us finished at Blaine's Monday evening I was too beat to load up the canoe. So it is still there.

Worked great. Stayed charged. Thanks.
Ken Burton wrote on Tue, 04 June 2013 19:34 | Oh Chuck, I forgot to ask. How did the GPS we "fixed" work on the return trip? I'm glad Jim soldered that component in stead of me. I could not see well enough to solder that surface mount part.

John, thanks for the pictures. And, especially thanks to Jim, Nancy and James Miller who are the most gracious hosts on earth. Had a nice time there, and appreciated the help and insights from Matt Colie especially, but also others who stopped by to check in on how I was doing with my steering shaft freeing up, greasing and boot replacement.
And, let me say, if you haven't done this and have a missing or torn boot, and/or sticking "blue" shaft slip joint, you really need to do it. Coach drove so much better on the way home. Not only was the steering a lot better, (and mine really has never been that bad to start with), but because the slip joint is no longer "frozen" and driving all the frame vibration into my near collapsing dash, it was a great deal quieter on the way home as well. I kind of wonder if my dash is in such bad shape, as it has been shaken apart over the years by the stuck shaft. I think the boots were only something like $35 from Jim K, and maybe $6 for a tube of Valvoline Syn Power. So, a low cost, high impact repair. You have to love those!
