Trip report, bobtailing at ~65mph, bout 580 miles, bout 60 gal hi test, 1 qt oil. Bearing temps 100 on steering rears 108 - 109 outside temps high 80s. No problems, brakes are great.
The Rally was great, lot of work going on, weighing coaches, ac repaired, steering issues, body pads, generators worked on, James Miller repaired my GPS where the charge cord socket was loose on the board. CV axles, boots, sway bar bushings, just stuff going on everywhere. I was a busy doing Bills new column and it came out great even after the minor hiccup about lunch time when I let the smoke out of it. The neutral safety switch listed in the parts books is the wrong one. It is wired wrong for our use and will take the start circuit to ground. More to come on this. We put the old switch on and all was well. The food was great, the shredded chicken with mustard was awsome.

Chuck, thanks for coming up. It was a good, casual, getting work done, fun rally. Hopefully you will be able to make it again the next time.
We couldn't ask for better hosts than the Millers.
Also, thanks for doing such a great job on my new steering column.

A,
In simple terms, No. The two work rally locations I have been to just are not up to changing out frame rails.
At Bean Station there really is not the required room, but you might be able to get the time if the host could allow it.
At the Miller's in Hamilton, there is easily room, but the facility is borrowed for the weekend only and I wouldn't want to have to do that job in that time.
You best bet would be to see if you can short-term some open industrial building.

| Thanks Matt. In the back if my mind I probably already knew that, and why I never asked before.

The simple answer is, Do you think you can get the project done in one day (or two). At Hamilton we have done things like knuckles and CV joint replacements. At Bean Station we have done final drive, body isolators, radiators, and transmission replacements.
I have never replaced frame rails but I'm picturing it as being a big multi-day job requiring heavy lifting equipment.

It takes Dan Stucky, the guy that make the frames about 120 hours spread over 3 to 4 weeks to do a frame change out and he has done many. He now farms it out to another guy just north of him in Canada.

It is my understanding that the time quoted for Dan to do a frame replacement includes a complete frame R&R which includes all the cross members and possibly the front sub-frame.
Replacing just the side frame rails could be done in a couple of days provided all the necessary tools and skills are available. The biggest obstacles would be the removal of the rear bogies, the Onan genset, and the condition of the bogie crossmember which is sandwiched inside the frame, between the bogies.
From my limited experience pulling apart 2 frames, i have found that the bogie crossmember may be as badly rusted as the side rails but often you can't see the damage until it is all apart. For that reason i would not count on being able to perform a frame swap in a weekend as you will encounter unexpected surprises.
