We've purchased and received the stainless steel battery tray from JimK. It seems to be plenty sturdy. It just barely fits in the battery compartment on our 77 Kingsley. We cut a small notch out of the bottom front of the partition between the battery and generator compartments so the latch at the left front works. This enabled us to set the battery tray a little deeper into the compartment so the compartment door closes properly. Mounting holes are drilled and it's about to go in.
However, we are now looking for batteries to fit the battery tray and are concerned whether they'll fit. We don't have a CG battery to actually measure so we're relying on the online specs. Trojan T-105 specs are 10 3/8 long, 7 1/8 wide. The battery tray is 20 1/4 long and 7 1/8 wide. So it appears the Trojans will fit width wise but the length concerns us as two of the Trojans will be 20 3/4.
Does anyone have the stainless tray from JimK with Trojans in it? Or does anyone have Trojan batteries and would be kind enough to check the dimensions to verify the 10 3/8 lengths.
Secondly, and we realize there are a lot of variables and much depends on power needs, but we'd appreciate any recommendations for brands of batteries based on the latest available. From what we're reading Trojans are slowly losing their market share. We're leaning towards lead acid core at the moment. And they need to fit in a 20 1/4 long and 7 1/8 wide tray.
We were considering the Duracell GC battery offered at SAMs but are concerned that SAMs seems to change brands often leading us to believe they're basing their batteries on price and perhaps not much on quality.
Thanks, as always,

The majority of the automotive and GC batteries are made by 4 or 5 US companies. The GC batteries made by US companies are all very similar in construction. I have use Interstate GC batteries and the Duracell batteries with equal success. I found no difference in the 2. Trojans are just more expensive for the same battery construction. They typically are all the same dimension. As for fitting the tray I suggest that you contact Jim K and ask him. I use the EGC2 Duracell and have for years, if you want to spend more for the Trojans that is your choice. The GC2 is a little cheaper but doesn't have the same punch.

Thanks for providing that link, JR.
The website says both batteries are only available in about half of the states. Not in the West and Southwest generally. This is consistent with what I have seen at the warehouse/club stores here. No 6v golf cart batteries anymore.
Anyone have a clue why, what is that all about?
The Interstate battery plant North of Dallas was forced to close due to Urban sprawl. Maybe they just went away mad?

It's a Duracell website. Maybe it's only duracell that's not available in
the West and SW.
Trojan website didn't mention a shortage.

JR,
Thanks for the battery info. Did some checking for the Duracell EGC2 and neither of the Lansing SAMs have them. We'll have to do some further checking either for the Duracells or other brands.
Thought more about the dimensions and am now thinking the dimensions in the specs might be the top of the battery. Perhaps the bottoms that fit into the battery tray may be a big smaller and therefore the batteries will fit the tray we have. It's hard to believe the battery dimensions have changed or wouldn't fit as that would make a mess out of replacing batteries in all sorts of vehicles.
