Spent all morning under the blocked up rear of the GMC. Pulled the leaking macerator. Took it apart. Could not figure out why the fluid is getting past the impeller. Tightened everything back up and put it back. Still leaks. Put one of my spares on. Leaks same place. Dang. Did not put my new one on, just left the spare. Going to jack it back up tomorrow and pull the electric gate and replace it so all the fluid shuts off at the tank. I guess it just started leaking, the gate. Must have messed up the rubber on the slide or something. So, drained the tank tonight. At least all I had in the tank was water from the fresh tank.
My grandson and I are rolling Thurs night for the big Vdub festival in Effingham. Should have lots of pictures loaded on the blog for those who enjoy old Volkswagens.

Sounds like big fun, Dan

(The VW festival, not rolling around under the coach dealing with black tank issues.)

Hope you get good weather.

The electric gate is not fully closing. I just came in from watching it, using a flashlight. For some reason there is a 16th inch gap where the motor is shutting off before completely closing the gate. I have forgotten all I ever knew about this little motor so going to have to research it on the net. I see no adjustment, looking at it from the outside.
The macerators are letting fluid get past the rubber impeller. 2 of the maceraters. I did not try my new one. Not a big deal if I can get the gate to close but these things should not leak. The only way is that the fluid must be passing to the rear of the pump via the shaft hole in the impeller. No other place for them to leak as it is sealed off from the motor. But it gets back there and drips out the little drain hole.
I have a sharp pain in my upper back from yesterday's work I am sure. So, not much else will be accomplished today.
Also, the Jabsco I left on there is a newer one. Has no slot for the screwdriver to turn a stuck motor. I can fix that with parts but I wonder why they quit using the open end with slot in shaft.

Dan,

I posted a series of pictures of the inside of one on the Photosite:

Can you pinpoint the leak with these photos?

Regards,
Rob

Yea, seems to be leaking where the impeller fits over the shaft.
Guess I could rtv it. Both appear to have same problem, not fitting tight enough onto the shaft so fluid seeps through.
