Anyone else in BC having problems with ICBC accepting our Vin numbers.
They are giving me the gears saying there needs to be 17 digits and all we
have are 13 digits in our VIN numbers (including the letters)
I now have to get a temp day licence to bring the coach from storage to one
of hte agents to view the Actual Vin number. I have all the original
documentation, sales, Importing and first ICBC insurance policy all
accepting the VIN number but now when I wanted to renew they had a hold on
it because they said the vin numbers were wrong. DUH! that's service from
our Government Agency.
This is a imposition by the former NDP government.
Eliminated competition.

ps...no, I have not had an issue re the vin # yet, but both coaches were inspected when registered and insured, though the agent had to phone Victoria to get instructions on how to override the computer.

Should you have the shop manual, it will show that there are no more #.

Dwayne,

I would suggest photographing the alloy plate that has the VIN number stamped in it before you bring it to have it inspected and
have the inspector sign the photo so if it they try the same stunt next year you send them the photo!

Rob

Dwayne,

Why don't you open the ICBC book to the page about VINs and show them where the 17 character VIN was introduced in 1981. No vehicle built before that date had a compliant VIN. I used to have a Jeep with a VIN of US127. That was all it had anywhere on it.

Matt - I'm back in the coach and tired.

I just registered my '73 over here on the Island. I had a problem with a typo on the paperwork. It had a J instead of a T on the TZE. I showed them the book, showed them 3 locations with all of them having the T instead of a J.
Also, my GMC is inside my garage and they came to see it.
You need a better agent.
On the other hand, I brought my '37 Ford out from Ontario and had to get the new VIN tag from ICBC. $25 for the tag, which they send to CTC and $50 for CTC to drill 2 holes and rivet it on. The reason for the new VIN was the old one on the frame was not easy to read. It has a big bolt going through it.

I brought the agent the documents but when she phoned ICBC for them to
remove the hold they said the agent had to visually inspect the Vin
Number. Get this: when I brought the Coach up from the states what I had
to do to get BC plates and insurance was have the coach weighed at the govt
weigh station - No visual or Garage inspection required. Then I brought up
my aVANTI and before i could get plates and insurance I had to take it to a
Certified mechanic for have it deemed road worthy. Next we have government
controlled emissions that I have to take the Avanti through each year.
HOwever not a requirement for the Coach. So we have this 11,000 lb rolling
down the road - with whatever braking power available at the time and no
inspection required, however we have this 3000 lb car that needs full
inspection.
Better say no more or else they may wise up - but that would be a miracle.

I have to weigh in on this one. I renewed my coach last week. I have a very good agent and try to get the same individual there each time I insure a vehicle. She did have to visually inspect the VIN when I first brought the coach into Canada and there were some mechanical inspection issues but she remembers me and the coach (old coach, old owner, both slightly quirky). I have a photo on my iPhone just in case she needs a reminder. I think having a good agent is critical in dealing with ICBC or probably any insurance corp. Before I found this agent I had issues trying to renew a Corolla. Find a good agent and stick with them.

I agree...a good agent is the key...someone that works on YOUR behalf.
