When I replaced my noisy front hubs after buying a 140k XJ I figured well that's one job I won't have to do again. I took it to my mechanic as I thought it might be carrier bearings this time. Nope. PartsMaster Chinese hub bearings. 1 year warranty and it's 3 years and about 35k of largely highway miles. So I had them do it and use Chicago Rawhide hubs supposedly USA. Now hopefully it won't have to be done at 3 years again. I think they cost about 2x the China ones but at least we have a choice and subtracting labor and second set, are much cheaper.

I am in the process of changing the water pump on my '94 Caprice wagon with the LT1 engine. I ordered a new water pump and luckily I looked inside.
There was no impeller. My supplier called his supplier and had them look in the other one they had in stock. Again, no impeller.
Yup, Made in China.

off topic,

but it if helps someone else.

bearings/hubs, can sometimes be found pretty cheap on amazon. you can almost get the better hubs for the same price as a parts house has the cheaper ones.

did that on my wife's impala. orielies wanted $170 for the 3 year waranteed hubs, and i got the same part off amazon for $95.(price of orielies duralast 1 year hubs)

John, I smiled when reading your post. Not because of your trouble but because of my 9 yr old grandson. He runs around telling folks that his grandpa will not buy "it" if it is not made in America. He doesn't realize the Toyota came from Japan. Very Happy
BUT, I am with you. My grandson is not far from wrong. I hope others will eventually see that we need to build our own stuff again. Especially auto parts.

Was the LT1 pump an AC Delco? A lot of those parts are offshore.

I remanufacture Semiconductor processing equipment for a living. There is one machine we do that has 12 DC gear motors. Originally made somewhere in Pennsylvania, then moved to Mexico, now made in china, these motors used to last years, but the new ones only last 90 days. The pot metal gears break. Now we leave the OLD motors on the machines as they last so much longer.

We get more life out of an old motor after cleaning the brushes than a new motor.

Seems like GM parts are all moving to china manufacturing.

I am sick and tired of this crap coming out of china.

We pay too much for real estate so there is nothing left over to buy good US made stuff so nobody makes anything here any more. Remember when Labor was the cheap thing? Not any more.
