I use Gasbuddy all the time. I plan for a gas stop between 150 and 250 miles, give or take, and try to find the lowest price within that range. It is surprising how much of a price difference there can be from one town to another. The prices can vary by 20 or 30 cents per gallon in as short a distance as 60 miles.

As a PS, the dark green area south of Phoenix on the map, is Pima County, AZ. We paid $2.97 for gas in our Tracker on Sunday. It is up a few cents today but still cheap.

I like Gas Buddy. I use it only locally though to see what gas is going for. Went up a dime today to 3.29 here in Dexter. Never use it on the road. Just stop every 200 or 250 miles and pay the price close to an exit. I do watch prices on signs along the way so I have an idea of the going price in an area. Wont stop if the price is a lot higher than what I have been seeing along the recent 50 mile trek.

Interesting all the red in the upper midwest. Must either be less competition, higher taxes, or crappy distribution or greedier suppliers or some combination of all of the above.

I always hate that Tucson is cheaper, but then the pipeline ends there and they truck it to Phoenix from there...

When in Steamboat the Shell Station has a non-ethanol pump.

I'm guessing the state to state differences are mostly due to state taxes.

I know Tucson has pipelines coming from both directions. That makes for more competition. We usually have the lowest prices in the state, with Flagstaff having the highest. Even here, prices will vary 20 - 30 cents per gallon depending on the street corner.
