Greetings. Well, sad as it is it's time to put our 1975 Glenbrook on the market. We simply are not using it like we did when we got it. When our kids were smaller we traveled 5-6 weeks a year in it and it was fantastic. Visited most of the beaches from Acadia to Orlando. Toured the east side of Lake MI, Smoky Mts, NY, Boston, Outer Banks, even Disneyworld (liked the stainless steel sewer connections). Now with 1 kid in college and anther to follow next year we simply aren't traveling much (just got back from Myrtle Beach though) and using it once a year simply is not cost effective. Life changes I guess. More sad I suppose that the family is not the same as it was 10 years ago...

Not sure what the asking price should be - nor am I looking to make any money (we paid $14K for it). I suspect the current value to be 10K or less. Would like to hear comments/suggestions. I don't have time for random tire kickers so I will probably not list it on craigslist Smile Here are the details:

1975 Glenbrook 455
146,xxx miles
6 kw onan
aluminum wheels (rides like a dream)
3 ac's on the roof (we like it cold)
zip dee awanings on both sides
newer air bags (holds coach for over a week)
2 air compressors (mechanical and electric)
grease fittings in front hubs (saves wheel bearings)
sewer macerator (shoot your poop 25 feet out a hose, the best)
screen door
full size bed in rear (hinged)
full size hanging bunk bed in rear (can be removed, all original interior included - rear seats too)
upgraded driver and passenger seats
upgraded toilet Smile
very drivable, never stranded us, very reliable

There is always work to be done... probably needs rear brakes sometime, sewer holding tank gauge not working, electric hot water fine but engine heating of the water not working (had to bypass it a couple of years ago), mechanical compressor temperamental, windshield wiper blades need replaced (again), small leak in heavy rains (running down the inside rail again, need to regoup the rivets on drivers side I suppose)... ... ...

Any posting suggestions or comments appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jim.

You need pictures, at least a couple outside and a couple in.

Have you REALLY thought this through? My wife and I have been "empty nesters" for about eight years now and really enjoy traveling in our GMC. We have owned it for almost five years now and have logged about 20,000 miles on it and have enjoyed every mile and minute of it. With a little planning, you might find that you can plan a series of three day weekends and an occasional week and a half trip per year. It's lots of fun for us, and might work for you too! Smile

I agree that you may want to think about it. I have a kid in college and the GMC has come in really handy for carting all her crap back and forth. It makes a pretty good truck! She is about 8 hours away and we get to stay over and make the moves in a lot more leisurely manner. We are also making a lot more weekend trips with the dogs that wouldn't be possible in hotels. Change is sometimes good!

Not sure if you have heard of the Tidewater Crabs.  We have rallies once a month in the VA/PA/MD/DE areas and its a great excuse to get out and use the coach with others who also have GMCs.  We're going up to Gettysburg in June.  Fabulous group of people.

http://www.gmctidewatercrabs.com/Rally_Schedule.html

We use ours for mainly local weekend trips and usually go on one big trip a year.

Oh yes, pictures. I took some last night and will need to find a place on the internet to post them. I had an account on the photo archive site but it appears to have been removed or disabled.

While taking pictures I noticed a few more unique things about my GMC I had kind of forgot. Like a font tow/lift assembly that also has a front facing hitch receiver (handy on a boat ramp). There's a full size bug screen mounted in front of the radiator to protect it. Air shut off valves on the air bags. Engine air vents. An engine cooler blower motor (it's a boat blower motor mounted under the front that helps exchange the air in the engine compartment when stuck in traffic). The carpet is insulated (inside) from the floor by reflective foil insulation. Rigid foil foam duct work insulation lines the underside of the engine compartment and front end (heat and noise reduction). Lift arms on the two rear compartments and a spring lift for the refrigerator compartment. And here's a personal favorite, I mounted a small PC box fan in the refrigerator vent (top). The idea is to draw air up from the side vent across the coils on the back of the refrig to assist in cooling them. It only draws something like 50 ma so compared to the 6-8 amps the refrig uses its practically nothing. Purpose was to reduce run time on the refrig when dry camping - never fully tested. Switch is mounted above the frig. Also has a big pod so with the 3 ac's it's almost like a white mohock Smile I also put the 30 year squeeze fix in years ago (helps pull bowing wall in on the door side for a better door fit. Aluminum step... oh the list goes on and on... kind of makes me sad thinking of all the fun I had with this project. I always viewed my motorhome as a Swiss army knife. Jim

Oh, you know it's not mechanical only really big electric motor and an exposed belt. The second compressor is one of those all enclosed units. The bigger one is so big it draws too much current and I was not sure it was healthy so I installed the backup and have been using it instead until I had a chance to look into it. But the cool thing is it will fill the air system in probably less than a minute - stunningly fast. Sorry about the confusion. I refer to as my "mechanical" pump because I can see the belt Smile

Thats a nice looking coach. Very simlar to mine in condition. I would say $10,000 is a fair price. Good luck selling it.

Nice looking coach

could you add another pic of hanging bunk from in the hall, floor to ceiling to show spacing. And does it fold up or just come out when not wanted?
A unique feature, you should play it up.

Thanks

Yes, the rear top bunk does fold up when not in use. There are two aluminum channels mounted about a foot from the ceiling along side the backs of the shower and closet. The bunk front edge slips inside the channel to lock it in place when up - the same setup is also used in the lower position. The rear of the bed is held up with beaner clips mounted on the chains. There is a sliding lock that keeps if from coming out. I used to raise and lower it but found that over time we just left it down because no one was riding in the rear. Now if I had mounted an LCD back there...

Funny thing is I thought about that when installing the front LCD drop downs and installed a video distribution box in the front. It allows me to drive up to 4 monitors if memory servers me right Smile

Oh, and it also allows you to sleep 8 people... not that I would want to travel with 8 but it is an option with the two rear double beds.

I guess it's time to get moving on this as we have taken what appears to be our only trip in the GMC this year... can't stand to see it sitting here unused Sad

I am thinking after reading the posts and viewing other adds that $7,800 would be a fair price. All documentation and original equipement included as well as spares currently carried in the GMC (air bags, alternator, waterpump, etc) as I never needed them! I even have the original sales reciept (I am not the original owner), lots of maintenance records (previous owner had Ken up in PA do the yearly maintenance) from myself and the previous owner, and a log showing the last several years worth of gas/milage information (averaged around 9, give or take depending on wind and genereator useage which many times was recorded in the notebook).

I am reluctant to advertise on Craigslist as I don't have time for tire kickers and would prefer someone who knew what a GMC Motorhome was. At some point I might try eBay, but thought I would ask the GMC community if there was someone out there looking. Oddly I might be interested in a partial trade for a car - have one kid looking for an older CRV/Ford Escape style SUV. I can be reached at jim.washburne@aemcorp.com and live in Leesburg VA. Thanks.
