Found in my morning e-mail.

I was just reading the April newsletter and decided that I had best bring you up to date from the Fields family. One week ago today, I drove our GMC Avion motorhome from our home in Gaithersburg, Maryland to the Belair Auto Auction RV yard in Edgewood, Maryland. Hopefully, it will be auctioned off to an individual who will plan to restore it, though it really needed a lot of "TLC". We decided for many reasons not to attempt to sell the vehicle, but rather to donate it to a charitable cause. Whatever net proceeds it brings will be donated to Imagination Stage in Bethesda, Maryland, which is a wonderful theater/theater education venue for children.

This would be a very nice Avion. I believe this is by the original owner of 38 years. Rare to be the second owner.

Tom,

I wonder if it is the one on eBay as the details don't line up. The auction facility is not the same, the city is not the same and
this doesn't make sense, the eBay ad says; "This RV does NOT RUN!! We do NOT KNOW what is wrong with it, do not ask!."

Regards,
Rob M.

The charity doesn't always have complete control over the donated vehicle.

A family member donated a very well cared for vehicle (that had been passed through a couple of family members)to a local charity. The vehicle donated was running well, had a clean, complete interior, and a new set of tires.

This family member believed in the charity and went to the auction out of curiosity to see how much his donation "helped the cause". Unfortunately, the vehicle being auctioned bore little resemblance to the one donated. The radio had been removed, the interior was trashed(door panels and seats had been switched out), the wheels and tires replaced with junkyard specials, and it had no battery so it could not run. Outraged, the family member complained. He was told as the vehicle was no longer his, it was not his concern.

He voiced his complaints to the charity, I have no idea what, if anything, they did.

I have no idea if that is the case here. Just relating an amusing anecdote.

I'm reminded of Salvation Army people from out of town who were picking out primo clothing items from what had been donated after the bombing in OKC back in 1995!

This Avion belonged to a member in very good standing of the GMC Tidewater Crabs. I have seen it several years ago, at Crab rallies. It is not the one on ebay. If you feel you need further information, P.M. me and I will provide a private e-mail address, not on the general forum. I would not post this information without their permission. Knowing the Owner's, I think this would be a good one to get. Better than the one(s) that I have purchased. No idea of the auction starting price or anything else.

I was informed today that this GMC was auctioned last week. New owner unknown. Nuts, lost another one.
