I have my 78 403 Royale up on 14 inch jack stands in my shop to put on a quad bag system, rear disc, change all engine hoses, and new tires and rims. Thus a great time to do something with the exhaust. I like the idea of a rear muffler. That would reduce my under floor heat that warms up my fuel tanks. The exhaust system that is under there is in great shape except the Y pipe, and one muffler. If I stay stock. I'll put two mufflers on, and the Y pipe. I love the sound of a good V8. Just not under my GMC. What are some part numbers for some good flowing quit mufflers. If I go with the rear muffler. I'll have to pull out a real nice 2.5 tail pipe that is welded in place. That's because my two stock mufflers wouldn't be up front giving up lots of BTU's. Thus reducing the amount of exhaust volume to the rear. So that will mean that I'll have to put in a 3 inch Dia. tail pipe, due to the increase in hot gas volume. Emery has a good number for that muffler. Bob Dunahugh

This is the only place I've been able to find them.

Yeh - when you pass through North Georgia, stop off.  I have a 'chop saw' which makes short work of them.  It also made short work of the treated 4x4s I have under the Palm Beach

Steve,
I have a set of the exact same jack/stand that i purchased from Costco several years ago. Excellent tool for working on the coach when used in pairs.

There was a short discussion on them here and the fact that Costco stopped selling them due to quality issues. One of mine leaks from the lowering valve when sitting in storage. It doesn't leak when a load is on it. I tried replacing the o-ring but it still weeps so i just store it in a plastic pan.

Here is the single SpinTech muffler set up I changed to from the dual Flowmaster configuration:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKpKsKLFXgM

This muffler is a bit on the loud side but not bad from inside. The larger one, that was not in stock when I got mine, would be better for sound reduction.

Also I seem to remember talk that a rear mounted muffler will not last as long due to the amount on condensation that builds up there without a chance to heat up enough to get dried out during short engine run time.

your options on a royale are limited due to the dual waste tanks.
I put on a flow master that I cut down to fit. Still sounds really good. A little rumble at idle amd you can hear it when you get on it, but not bad Smile

I tried the round one that Jim K sells and it was way too loud for me.
I built my own exhaust with some mandrel bends and pipe from Car quest, pretty dang cheap. Fleet Farm has them too.

For a short time we used a round muffler in the back from Flow masters. I
took his advise and used it.
Ended up sending them back as they were very loud.
Spintech units have worked for many, and we have been playing with them.

Emery has a good number for that
