I'm considering replacing my ceiling liner on my 77 PB because the original
is sadly sagging. Recently someone wrote of their replacing the liner using
marine hull liner fabric applied to the existing fiberboard which mine
seems still to be in good condition. I've lost that letter to the "list"
but would like to know how it worked out. I also would like to know how the
existing plastic divider strips are fastened to the roof as well as how the
plastic strips at the walls are fastened . I don't see any screws or
fasteners. Are they easily removable and reuseable ?
I think that fabric would be an easy way to go - and economical
There's a video of it's use and installation on a boat's cabin headliner on
Youtube.
Feedback would be appreciated.

Andy,

The PO of our coach used hull liner, but not on the original backing:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g3244-headliner-installation.html

Other than not using quite enough adhesive in a couple of spots (I had to do some re-gluing) it has held up very well. It makes the inside of the coach quiet and comfortable. It has a 'warm' feeling to it.

I also am working on replacing the headliner.

In removing the wire cover, I cracked the plastic in a
couple of places, none of which is too severe.

Does anyone on the net know what king of plastic this
is so I can use the correct glue to repair these cracks?

I think it is either ABS or PVC.

thanks

I went with 3/16 ABS plastic with a pebble finish and got rid of the entire
old headliner. Somewhere on bdub's site there are pics of how I did it as
well as how Arch did his.

The stuff is bulletproof. The divider strips pop off a metal track can be
reused.

I just finished replacing my headliner and wall panels with Fiberglass Reinforced Panels (FRP) covered with a White Carbon Fiber Vinyl.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6379-interior.html

The vinyl I used was fairly heavy, but I found that 3M 08090 adhesive worked well if I used a good amount of it. I also found that doing so in my basement was a poor choice - that stuff will fumigate an entire house.

I'm very happy with the results. Next winter, I'd like to tackle repainting the cockpit liner and dash. But, now it's time for camping Very Happy

I used 1/8 plywood using the old pieces as temples for cutting. I glued
white vinyl to the plywood with 3M brushed on, and used a hard roller to
attach the two ...much like rolling down counter top.
It's about 5 years now and holding well.

The job looked much bigger before I started...after I got into it...a piece
of cake...(most days)

Thanks for your sharing your solutions and details.
I'm going to get some headliner fabric samples and do a sample before
proceeding.
The GMC photo archive is very helpful.
