Good Morning
Since we've owned our GMC I've experimented with dozens of ways to clean the
Alcoa Wheels, always ending up disappointed.
Well yesterday I felt like I hit the magic formula! 10 minutes per wheel and
they literally go from looking 50 years old to looking like brand new. All
minor scratches and pits gone. Check it out, I did all 6 wheels in about an
hour.
First pictures shows the products I used. Second shows how the wheels looked
after last season and winters storage. Third shows how the wheel looked 10
minutes after I started cleaning it.
Products and methods are outlined in the pictures.

Simple Green is available at any hardware or big box store like Home Depot,
Lowes, Target, etc.
The Chrome Shop Mafia Aluminum Cleaner I found online.
3M Marine Aluminum Polish & Restorer I purchased at a boating supply store.
Black Magic tire foam or Armorall can be purchased from any auto parts store.

Seems Chrome Shop Mofia has hooked up with Accuride...

and the 3m stuff:

Nice results. Prices do not look to bad either.
I need to do something about my JimK hub centered Eagles (early version) I also have 10 old style eagle wheels so I'll most likely be ordering some soon.

I'm pretty sure my wheels have a plastic coating. Do you strip that off?

Wow, Ray that looks really good, especially if that's all the time it took. I definitely need to do some web shopping. I may actually have some of the 3M stuff around for, of all things, my boat.
I was under the impression most of the Alcoa forged wheels were not coated with anything. I know mine are not. They did offer it as sort of an option, but it never seemed very popular. I think virtually all oem factory car and light truck wheels do have clear coat on them. If you keep your cars a long time and live in snow country, you'll understand why the clear coat wasn't very popular on the Alcoas, which tend to go on long lived vehicles.
