Dang, I hate crawling around under the frontend of this cotton picking GMC. I dread the 5 minute grease job for a week, or longer.
BUT, it sure beats paying to have an SOB greased. Oil change is also a 5 minute job. Got to look on the positive side. I do have a concrete driveway. Job finished for another 3,000 miles.
Life is good here.

you need to start training those grandkids. show them how a grease gun works. they like getting dirty right?

where is a map of the grease fittings for the whole thing, i need to do it to all of them front and rear.

Its stupid question time:
Is the 1-ton upgrade helpful in replacing grease fittings with "lifetime"
fittings or do you still have grease fittings?

Yes, in the operator's manual, page 95 on the one I looked at.
If you do not have manuals on DVD/CD (you should, see here: <http://www.bdub.net/tomlins/index.html> ) you can down load what you need from BDub's site: <http://www.bdub.net/factory-manuals.html>
Early in my GMC ownership, I printed out the page, added the dual-zerk boogie greasers, and took it to jiffy lube... they STILL missed some.
NOW... I do it myself, by hand-powered pump... then I know if each and every zerk took grease. This is important to me, as I normally do not get around to the greasing quite as often as recommended.

There's only 956 grease fittings on that GMC Dan. I have the same amount
on my SOB, and they're a lot harder to get to.

Dan,
I reckon if you use Valvoline Synpower, Valvoline Durablend or Caterpillar Desert Gold (all with moly) greasing the GMC becomes a
once a year job.
I use the same grease in the front and rear wheel bearings and fronts have grease zerks so that's an easy job.
Tom Pryor is working on a grease zerk system for the rear bearings and when he's got that done I'll consider it.
I bought a pneumatically powered grease gun from Harbor Freight which means all I do is pull a trigger and watch for grease to
squirt out. It is MOST important to watch for grease to squirt out as that's the only way you KNOW grease is going in!

I bought one of those battery powered grease guns my mechanic states it does not have the power of a lever one.
He claims the pressure from the lever is higher and gets into the area better? I gave mine to him and he never uses it.
I should get it back, i think it really works ok, but for each his own, he is so good i will not say a word back to him.
He is an expert on dodge and ford vans, and does about 400 of them all from LAX airport. He is so good i will not say
anything to make him not proud for he is a great mechanic. welder. He states to use mixed mobile one and regular oil
because the mobil one burns up your catalytic converter faster. ?
He told me that yesterday.

Rob,
I had one of the pnuematic jobs that I tried to use on my old Jeep Gladiator. I soon discovered that I made Click-Chug even when no grease was being pumped. I was not happy with the result. I can't always see it coming out of the bogie, but if I can move the lever, I know it is going in.
Even with SynPower, I still grease the bogies every 1K and the whole front every 5K (more or less - not on the road). Grease is always cheaper than parts. The only problem now is finding SynPower.

Anyone have an opinion on Honda Molly 60 grease? I used to use it on my BMW
motorcycle drive shaft, and I have a useful amount left.

I could not agree more. It is as if GM said, "OK, now let's put this next one where only a monkey with small hands can reach if he hangs from his tail." Getting the tip on squarely with my hand bent into painful positions while trying to get the glasses so I can see. Just nothing but fun.

George, It looks like great minds think alike. Not due to old age but a motorcycle wreck several years ago, I have some serious knuckle problems. One of the upper ball joints on this one ton has a zerk on the back. Harder than the dickens to get it to accept grease. Hope I got some in it yesterday. As noted earlier I have to keep a plug in one because when I turn tight it gets knocked off. Not complaining, just saying I hate doing it.

I still can't believe no one has come up with a better grease fitting. The things leaked on my father's old 1930 something McCormick-Dearing W30 and they leak on my new Kubota BX estate tractor... and everything I've greased in between!
