Since Jim K is still advertising aluminum grills on his site, I guess I was hoping against hope that he had some left. I tried to order one, but Nick from Jim's shop informed me that they didn't have any, only plastic ones. My grill is in bad shape, repaired too many times and needing it again. I don't really want a plastic one if I can help it. My question is: Does anyone know of a source for an aluminum grill?
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,
The aluminum grill in JimK's catalog is, err was, manufactured by Manny Trovao of Manny's Trannys fame.
Here is a link to his website: http://www.mannystransmission.biz/
As you can see he has the aluminum grill listed, however, Manny is busier than all get out and to date he hasn't been able to make a
production run on the grill.
If you would like to go with a fiberglass grill Frank Jenkins makes a number of different models:

At Dothan I tried to gently prod Kerry into making up a batch since his looked so pretty, but like he told us on the net, too much work and trouble to justify the price. Mine is getting to be so bad it might just come out of the hole altogether. Getting worried parts of it might do more damage breaking off and flying through than any road debris the remaining pieces might be blocking!

Mine is in pretty bad shape also. May we need to flood Manny with GMC grill SPAM to get his attention.
As if he has nothing else to do.

He had the parts a year or two ago when I talked to him.
He is just having more fun doing other things.

He would not advise a time schedule to assemble and coat the grills.

At purchase, my grill looked strange - like it didn't fit the hole. I tried to flex it into place and hold it with screws and wire nuts. It didn't work.
What I ended up concluding is that somehow the ABS got distorted over time. Anyway, my fix was to cut the vertical, center pillar in three places - right under the horizontal features. I figured if I did that, when I reattached them, the cuts and fixes would not be visible.
With the cuts, it was easy to flex the grill into the right place on the body and to hold it in place with screws and wire nuts. It made me think that I could just cut the center pillar out altogether, but I didn't do that. I thought the horizontals might vibrate at speed.
What I did do was to screw the grill into the right place in/on the hole in the front of the body. Then I fiberglassed the center pillar back together while in place. After it hardened, I took it off and then put it back on and it fit right.
Then I took it out, sprayed it with silver paint ( along with the two headlight units) out of a spray can. Looks better than before. Not like a perfect custom job, just a lot better than before.

Keep your shirt on, guys! I am working on a grille project with the company that made the outside refer doors for me. Only problem is they don't pay me much attention since I am a small volume customer. I am waiting on an estimate for the engineering work and we will go from there to production if the price point works out. It will be very distinctive and will look like GM did it. It will be aluminum and/or stainless steel.
I must put in a word for Frank Jenkins' fiberglass grille. Very well done and will last a lifetime. They can be painted to match your coach as well. Frank is one of our quieter vendors but he does one heck of a job for the GMC community. Did you know that he now has a fiberglass dash board? A lot of work to create that one.
I hesitate to mention new products in advance as things do not always work out. Also, some people do not like for me to do things they are already doing-case in point, fiberglass T-skirts. I was asked to cease and desist by another vendor, which I did. Still have two that are as good as or better than anyone else's. The good news is that the refer doors I had made were bought and sold by JimK and also Jeff Sirum.
Though I have very few used parts left to sell, I am constantly working on new items. So far I have/had the refer doors, powder coated range tops, the "Fishing Cabinets" and the "Console Critter" to sit on the engine cover, with a second order of refer doors and the grille in the works. I also have plans for several other items to dress up the coach and have practical value as well. Not making any money but having lots of fun in the GMC world...........Michael at GEMRECS

Micheal keep us posted on the aluminum grills. I think there is good demand for that. I have one of your refer covers and it is great. Good quality, perfect fit. Thanks for stepping up on some of this stuff.
