John Beaver, my engine builder friend, with whom I rescued the 19-years-
parked GMC a few months ago, now has the '76 Eleganza just about gutted.
He's even decided to move the bath module forward in order to add twin
beds in the rear. I've suggested that he use one of the instant water
heaters y'all have been bragging on rather than moving the OEM heater.
So, now y'all need to tell us what's proven the best model and source. And
perhaps the dimensions so he can allocate the space in his new design.
TIA,
Ken H.

My Aqua 6L performs fantastic, one of the best improvements I've made to the
coach.

I second Erspamer's choice; I installed the same in my Royale and it works
really well. Got mine off Ebay about a year ago for $150 and that
included shipping.

Ken -
We have Insta-Flow 110V electric tankless heaters in our offices/studios. They're little bitty and mount under each sink. One caveat - they >are< fairly high current.

I looked into putting an electric on demand into the coach since we have no propane. It's just not feasible unless you are going to be hooked in to 50 amps everywhere you go. Even then, the water temp rise was going to be pretty limited. If you are going on-demand, you pretty much have to go propane for this application. Unless you don't mind turning everything else in the coach off and taking a luke warm shower...

Our elec/plumb supply house sold these. The results were so poor that we discontinued the entire line. They're passable for taking the chill off washing your hands, but that's about it.

Have any of you who have installed the Aquah 6L heater recorded/saved a list of materials and dimensions that you used to aid others in their installation?
I intend to remove my original water heater to reduce weight, coolant hoses that could leak, and to gain a bit of storage space.

Well, these get plenty hot... but they do want a seperate circuit. I don't think off batteries and an inveerter would be the move. I got to admit though, I get along just fine with the (tank) water heater Norris fitted. From what I've seen of the propane ones, time you figure the vent etc. there's not a great space saving. You do beat the one bath limit though.

Not sure what the problem was with your supply, but before I installed mine I
tested it in the basement in the winter. I wanted to know it's true capacity
and what the exhaust temperatures were.
At it's highest setting it took the 45 degree input water supply water and heat
it to 160 degrees at the output. We've had it in the coach now for 4 years and
it works incredible, we keep the setting turned down to about the two thirds
point and the water is in the 125 degree range. Temperature is very consistant.
No complaints from this end, we love it.

Yes, these do get hot and will hurt you. We keep our's on a very low setting, depending on what the temperature of the water in the tank is. We do not hook up to city water so our tank water is usually warm. Also, I keep the "flow" on the lowest setting. We have the same brand as Ray, but the smaller one just for the bath use.
