Just catching up on e-mails. I liked what Kerry Pinkerton wrote Tuesday. Personally I think GM did a good job in the choice of power plants in the GMC. I like the HP, and torque charts on these power plants. We drive torque, and over rate HP in our minds. The choice of final drive is another issue. I build stock, and mostly high RPM road race engines. 6 to 9,000 rpm range. A well rebuilt engine when properly done. Will out last the originals. Materials have improved over the years. I'm vary happy with my 78, 403, 3.70 final drive Royale. I gross 19,000 to 22,000. most of the time. At 70 mph my tack is at about 3100 RPM's. In that RPM range, that 403 seems to be in a sweet zone. My torque converter is nicely locked up to as close to 100% as it's going to get. My trans temp is vary good. With the Q jet. I'm in the 7 to 8 mpg. I'm putting on a fuel injection system soon. And putting in a new 2 and a half inch exhaust system. I'm staying with the 2 and a half inch, as I wa
nt to keep my exhaust gas speed up to help in scavaging the engine's exhaust.I think it's interesting what power plants that are being installed in GMC's. I vary much admire the engineering that goes into these efforts. I think the real rewards in these projects are in doing it. More then any financial rewards. It's just like my putting in the fuel injection system in my GMC. I think that doing it will be my reward, more then money saved at the pump. Time will tell.Bob Dunahugh

Even in light race cars, the adage "horsepower sells engines, and torque wins races" applies!
