I am thinking this would be possible in the rear section of a GMC.

Not sure if I would want to do the work though...

Yeah, I've seen some Series II Land Rovers and one old VW van fitted up with curtain-wall slideouts. The rear panel of the GMC would be a natural. ...IF you wanted to do the work.

That is part of what makes the "Doubleback" so interesting. (At least to me.) The whole sliding part is made of an aluminum composite and is one piece. It is the "one piece" part that I like. It should not have any seams to leak. So as long as the end has a good lip and seal, it shouldn't leak. (Much.)
It is also considerably longer than Doc's slide out. (Something like 6.5 feet.) And with the supporting, leveling legs, it doesn't seem like it is really limited to being that "short". In theory, with a 23 foot coach, something like this could be done with a sliding part around 15 foot or so. (The limiter would be the location of the door.) It also wouldn't be Limited to the rear hatch as it could slide the whole rear cap with the sliding section, making it wider... Up to about 7.5ft wide.
But like I already said, in different words: It is interesting, but I would have a hard time justifying the work, time and money required to make it happen.
