Pulled my gearbox to properly center it up. Followed the directions Don Wirth published and I end up with 4 1/4 turns stop to stop which I think is to much and no matter how many times I try, the flat spot ends up at about 11:00 in comparison to the hose fitting spots when just finding center by counting turns and when adjusting the allen screw to get the torgue right the torgue wrench says the center of the tight spot is at 11:00 also. I don't think this is right. Any opinions from anyone with more experience with gearboxes than me woul be appreciated.

I don't know about ALL of them, but many '73s had no stops in the box
itself. The factory cured this by welding pieces of steel to the sides of
the lower A arms to act and steering stops. I had a box in my '76 that you
could turn until you ran out of worm gear. Very hard to center these.

Are you talking 11 on the box input or the steering wheel? The flat on the input should match the box cover flat while the Pitman is at 90. That would have to be centre, Tie rods should be set to get relay and idler straight when going straight. As far as the Wheel to the box there are 4 places in the chain that can be off by a spline or 2 and become compounding or negating but only one correct way exists. The blue square can be off in 90 deg steps. IF all this is correct and you can't keep the wheel on centre ( box on centre) then final tweak is best done with a Lenzi adjustable drag link.
