yesterday we drove the 500 miles from Berlin to my home in Denmark.
The car was driving very fine at 60 M/H without mayor problems.
Ther were the small hickups you can expect from a slightly neglected car: warninglights going on and of, a broken taillightbulb etc.
Today I started to go over the car to find out what I actually bought. I knew a lot of technical stuf was done ( last 5 years, no miles) and actually more then I knew:
Alcoas
thorley headers
new holding tank
step and ( stil in the box) ladder
manny trany
precision steering
stabilizer bar
new driveshafts
webasto s90 waterheather
truma 4000 hotair
new roof aircon
Edelbrok intake and carb
new stove
new fridge
new toilet
and a lot of small things and spareparts
On the down side:
Electrics stink, batteri death and all from 76
Floor under bed rotten
all interior very tired
dash need attention
dash aircon
glasfiber dammage left rear
All in all it seems like a good buy and a lot of work for the next couple of months

Lenze,
Congratulations on your trouble free first trip. And on finding all the
already-done's.
One item on your list raises a red flag for me: "Edelbrock Intake". You
may have missed the brief conversation we had here about that a few days
ago. I STRONGLY recommend that you check whether that Edelbrock
installation included the cast iron crossover port plugs they recommend.
In fact, more than recommend, they REQUIRE them for warranty of their
manifold. Here's why I make this warning:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g3057-cylinder-head-damage-from-exhaust-crossover-plugs.html
or
http://goo.gl/GBrtC
As you can see, those plugs very nearly destroyed both of my cylinder
heads. If I hadn't caught the problem when I did, the failed heads might
very well have caused the entire engine to be destroyed. I have one friend
to whom that exact thing happened. I've heard of others.
I don't know any way to determine whether those plugs are installed other
than by removing the intake manifold. I WOULD do it before putting many
thousand miles on it. While you've got the intake off, consider another
method of plugging the crossover.
Oh yeah, I think I DO know why they require the plugs: I bought the coach
with the Edelbrock installed. It did not have plugs, and the manifold was
BADLY cracked from excess crossover heat. I had it welded but it failed
again. When I contacted Edelbrock, they sent me the iron plugs and told me
to install them. That's when the photographed problem began. I later
plugged that manifold with zinc -- before I got tired of climbing over the
hump in the engine hatch and went back to the OEM manifold.

Appie,
That low water temperature reading may be the result of a long-known GMC
design problem. Here's the story, quoted from
http://www.gmcmotorhome.info/engine.html :
This may be old news for most but doesn't hurt to be told. The original
temp. sender on all GMC Motorhomes at :
1/4 is 225 degrees,
1/2 is 250 degrees,
3/4 is 270 degrees, and
H is 280 degrees.
This has caused a lot of engine damage when engine starts to overheat. Go
to NAPA and get a TS-6469 sender and it will show:
1/4= 180 degrees,
1/2 = 215 degrees,
3/4 = 240 degrees, and
H = 255 degrees.

I replaced my sender with the NAPA ts-6469 and it still reads low like the
original one.

Get the connector for the new sender as it uses a different on from stock.

Sounds like with all the other improvements, the NAPA temp sensor might be already there. Check the wire connection to the sensor, if it is a flat clip-on, it has been changed.
Europe is a little cooler than running in the Deep South, so this is just an thought,
