I have been chasing the gremlin of sputtering at around 35mph. After I got past 35 it was fine. Here is the background of everything. I dropped both tanks (cleaned and coated. New senders, metal lines, new selector, new electric pump, new filter before pump, and rebuilt carb from Jim K. It was a ton better but still stumbled at 35. I could not find any leaks anywhere but I could drive it. I took the family from Houston to Sea World and back no major issues but still stumbled at 35 five or six times. Today I removed the manual pump, installed the block off plate. Now with that done it starts runs for a minute or two then just dies. If I start it and rev up the engine it sounds great and runs but then just cuts off. Any suggestions as I hate to put the manual pump back on as would like to finally fix the issue?? Trying to make it to Dallas this weekend with the family.

Next time it stalls, crack the fuel line fitting to the carb and see if you
have fuel. If you do, you could have a sticking inlet needle, or low fuel
pump pressure. Do NOT FALL INTO THE "It can't be the fuel pump because it
is brand new" trap. New stuff fails more often than experienced parts do.
Also, make sure you have the correct gas cap on the coach. Gmc used a semi
vented cap.

Okay looks like I will go ahead and order another fuel pump. I just picked up a fuel pressure guage and hope to get that on tomorrow to see where I am at with that. Thanks for the suggestions.

Pull the distributor cap if it is a HEI. Look carefully at the weights to make sure the rotor is not jumping a spark to the weights. A tiny crack will leak down but higher RPMs pulls the weights out if arcing distance. The real symptom for this is it dying when you give it gas at lower RPMs. Increased compression will make it harder for the spark to jump and it will take the easier route to the weights. Get some RPMs and it will go like a scared rabbit.

Be careful with that fuel pressure gauge. I've had a several fail,
including one that leaked and dumped raw fuel on the exhaust manifold. I
would not leave one in place for very long with the engine concealed.

Well put the fuel pressure guage and it is around 5 psi with the ignition in the on position but once I crank the the wire to the pump goes to zero volts. I must have something wired wrong through the oil pressure switch. 3 terminals one for the 12 volt ignition source, one to the starter solenoid, and one to the pump. So confused on why it stops once I start it? So will have to see if it is the way it is wired or bad switch? Driving me nuts! Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you have it on the start lug of the ignition switch instead of the run lug. You can run a jumper directly to the battery or to a full time hot point and see if that solves your problem. Bet it does.

Okay fixed the issue I had it wired wrong through the oil pressure switch. Add this to the list of dumb things I have done! Well will be taking a test drive to see if it still stumbles. Wish me luck.

Charley, It does not sound like you need "luck". I believe you found the source of the problem. After tomorrow's run with no stumbling you are going to feel really good. It is a great feeling when we can run something like this down in our own driveway. I make no claims of being a mechanic but often I have found the problem with help from folks here. Just feels really good. My latest was a leak in my air system. Tinkered with it for months. Finally got the stainless one gallon air tank from Jim K. Installed it, still leaked. Found that I had not tightened my pressure switch enough. Been holding 130 pounds of air now since Friday.
Life is good.

Yes, the support this group gives can not even begin to be measured. It is a good feeling once you you fix an issue. Thanks to all for all the suggestions. Dan thanks for the reminder as I move to find the leak in my air system. The new Sully system is installed but still leaks down over a few days. Oh well keeps me out of trouble.

Charley, all of my air system is under my refer. Makes it easy to work on and keep clean. I finally got the new stainless tank from Jim K. There was the beginning of the end to my air leak. Shut those bags off first and check everything before the bags. Feels so good to fix the smallest of headaches.

Sully personally installed my "Sully-Bilt" system" at
the Shawnee convention last year as a demo for all.

It leaked down, but Sully checked it out and the leaks
were ALL in the connections at the pump inside the
coach. My coach has the Schraeder valves and I
just set the coach to correct travel height after
loading and shut off the valves. Voila! No leakdown!

Use a spray bottle with a bit of detergent (Dawn or
similar in water and spray ALL connection points in
the air system, including connections at the bags.

Raining here today but I did spray all the connections with soapy water on the outside and all seems to be okay there. I think it is leaking inside the coach near the pump as my system does not have a tank and is located in the back driver side under the bed. Will check it later as right now it is a slow leak and hope to be heading towards Dallas this weekend. I really do like the Sully set up.
