I'm looking at having a parts coach towed 207 miles. I have the ultimate AAA package which is good for 200 miles. Will they tow this coach which clearly is non-running with parts missing that hasn't ran in some time? The tires are down for starters.It seems it would be up to the driver whether he wants to turn down a $1000 tow? Who has done it and what was the conditioN?

Robin did it... from inside a barn. It was VERY obvious it hadn't been in use and just broken down.
I do not know what kind of roadside assistance program he used.

they key is to have current registration on it. (even if it is not the correct one)
but it depends on the towing company in the end.

Yes, I did it. I was told it had to have a current registration, and that
was it. Totally got re-imbursed the 600 dollar tow bill.
THAT SAID...
Upon further reading of the terms and conditions, I believe there is a
requirement that you actually be a passenger/driver at the time of the
breakdown for which the tow is necessary. I learned this when I tried to
help out a friend; I've got tows left, and a friend of ours was broke down,
so I drove out there, called AAA, and said to tow it. They balked... in
order to cover OTHER people's cars, I would have to get some kind of
friends and family plan. My AAA would have covered towing my friend's
vehicle if I had been a passenger in it at the time, however.
I guess what I'm getting at is, if you want to scrupulously adhere to the
letter of the contracting language, make sure you know what it says. If you
own the coach, and it has a current registration, then there may not be a
requirment that you be a passenger in it at the time of the breakdown.
AAA is STILL seriously upside down with me after that tow. :) I've kept up
my membership ever since, though, so maybe someday they'll break even. :)

It was only a few miles from the barn to the campground where I stored it.
Definitely less than 10. The expensive part was the Landoll trailer and
the heavy wrecker to drag tgat thing out of there.
Miraculously, I was able to drive it under its own power from the
campground to my storage facility a few months later.

I'm a little concerned about paying for it and getting reimbursed. If I dropped a grand and they didn't cover it then I have to figure in the cost of a divorce! On cars and AAA I just gave them my membership card at pickup and I was done.

It seems like they would just get the TZE number off of the registration rather than looking around under the hood of the coach. If yoy have registration for a like coach. I would think you would be good. AAA did say that it would need to be roadworthy but I guess that is up to the driver to determine?

Robin,
When I met you at Dothan-we were talking to you about your Pontiac-I did not realize that you were the famous Robin of the "Barn Queen" video on youtube. That gave me real inspiration to get mine home!

and I hope to get to my next rally in one of my coaches instead of a tent!

I still haven't gotten around to fixing my headlights on my Pontiac, so no
night driving. :(

Robin, if you had looked in the Toadstone you would of seen a plug hanging from the dash where the light switch should be, with a sopider of wires with push - in terminals on a couple of them. One fires up the parking lights, the other the headlights. Each morning, I plug them in to drive to the bus stop, and unplug them when I get there. Cheapest switch I can find on the net is $85. I have bagged a couple of switch blanks from the men's mall, when the spirit moves me I'll mount a couple of toggles on them. If your boat has a plug - on harness on the switch, you can dangle it down and do the same. One caveat - VW fuses the lights seperately, while your switch contains a circuit breaker, so you probably ought to fuse the jumper with 30 amps or so.
