At Dothan, Johnny Bridges and I sold off a bunch of GMC items donated by
the widow of an old friend of Johnny's. All of the proceeds, almost $500,
went to GMCMHPhotos.
From another table I sold equipment donated to the Dixielanders by a friend
of a deceased member.
That seems to me a good way to dispose of those "too good to trash" items
we've all got laying around.

Gene's points are well made.
DVD's are going the way of the 3 1/2 " floppies. Video uses lots of bytes. USB sticks may be the short term storage answer, with no convient labeling method.
External large hard drives are inexpensive and may be the final answer, since we cannot rely on the "cloud."
Just something else to carry and archive.

I forgot. We had punched paper tape before floppies. I used to have to write out my compiled code on paper tape. (Also, punched tape was used to program the print carriage.)

Here is my take on technical and historical data. It now takes many forms.
If it is in what I call bound format, books, printed stuff. Establish a
library, endow it with $$$$ and make it perpetual. If it is Digital, come
up with a common format that can be shared by all Gmc clubs and owners
alike. The current "stick technology " works well for me. Dvd works as well
and is easily shared. Copyright be damned. It ain't the congressional
record, folks. Information was meant to be shared. (rant off)

I received the check yesterday. $475 ! And I am most appreciative. This
will go a long way toward keeping the photo site in good shape.
I've been trying to find out who to thank. I've expressed gratitude to
Johnny and Ken but am trying to find out who donated the parts so I can
contact them as well. Any news on that Johnny?
I sure appreciate all help.

Some years back, I nherited an animated sign atop the Babnk For Savings Builging in downtown Boermingspam. The display was five rows eighty spotas long of 150 Watt outdoor floods. The thing is still up there if you go through on I 65. It was run by a PDP-8E which had 2K of memory onboard. MAg core it was - it held memory even powered down. The i/o was a Teletype <tm> Model 28 with a reperf unit. Since I was Computer Savvy (I had had a Commodore PET when I took the job) I inherited the thing and actually it worked fairly well. I ran down one o0f the old hands from AS&I, the maker, in Bellibngham WA. He said they made about six of them. Boards were wire - wrap using ECL chips. There was a Sacnbe frame upstairs which held a bunch of cards, each of which controlled 8 bulbs vis triacs. I stuck an RS-232 to 20MA adaptor in the line to the Teletype <tm> and hooked it to a modem so you could load it remotely, and then wrote some code for an
Apple II to design stuff for it. That old toy was a hoss.
Jeremy Knezek, the sign was there last tiome I ran through tiown. Is it still being used?

Tom, you must be just a kiddo.
My first floppies were 8" and the first PC hard drive was 5Mg.

The lady who gave it to us is Mattie Philips, widow of Jimmie Phillips. Both of them were AKC dog show superintendants, working for Jack Onofrio Dog Shows. They had initially an orange 26' GMC which they used to travel to shows. Later swapped it for a Newmar pusher. Jmmie was a compulsive squirrel, never tossed ANYthing. We had a show in Montgomery last fall dedicated to Jimmie's memory and Mattie came up for it and asked me if I wanted 'all Jimmie's old motorhome junk'. Ken was kind enough to buzz over to Albany and pick it up and haul it to Dothan. Where we sold what would sell, and Dumpsterized the useless. Mattie moved back to someplace in N Florida. I've asked a couple of Dog Friends but haven't heard back. She >may< of kept up their FMCA membershjip, you might look there. I've a couple more folks to ask. I'll see some of the Onofrio troops on into the summer and I'll ask them also. Past that, I've no good way of reaching
her. I have a (dead) Albany phone number with no forward.
