I checked the the usual suspects but don't see anyone that has a replace for the Twin Bed Mattresses. After spending a long weekend sleeping on ours, my wife and I are still hobbling around in lower back pain.
Is anyone one out there doing replacement Mattresses?

Having recently spent 3 nights in the back of a Birchaven with the side-mount (flex-steel?) settees, I can say that I was really expecting crippling back pain --so I hear you loud & clear. To my surprise, the rear queen was comfortable. My daughter and son-in-law reported that the dinette bed (flex-steel??) was also surprisingly comfortable (but narrow).
JimB reupholstered these for the PO. I do not know if he changed the foam but suspect he did. At any rate, he's making high-density foam mattresses for the rear twin Royale. Mine is extra-long.

My coaches mattresses were replaced by the P.O. with purpose built mattresses from a "custom" mattress store. No idea of the coat, other than they are very comfortable and fit the Avion layout.
This might be the only way to go, as I believe that the typical twin bed in the GMC sized coach is narrower than a standard twin.

The PO moved the nightstand, bridged the aisle of my rear twin Royale and put a full sized regular mattress in my coach. I was going to restore it back to twins but I'm starting to like the new configuration. Up until it's time to access the buzzbox or plumbing that is  .
Royale rear twin can be a bit challenging to find especially if you want the corner notched to clear the tail light housing. Custom is about the only way to go.
Check out some local stores that specialize in the different types of foams. You can pretty much make your own. Start with a 4 inch firm and top it off with 3 inch gel memory foam topper. Have some nice upholstered covers made for the sandwich and call it a day,......er night.

If you check in the yellow pages and look for mattresses you might find a local mattress manufacture. While we were in Tucson we found a custom mattress shop that would build in any shape size and materials that you wanted and at a reasonable price and 1 week Delivery. Here is the Mid Michigan area there is a custom shop in Saginaw, MI.
If you look for custom makers on the web there are many. Just do a search for custom mattress makers. See if any are in your area.

We got a foam mattress from Overstock dot com. It consists of two layers of different density foam with a 3 or 4 inch memory foam topper. It is at least as comfortable as the sleep number bed we have in the house. IIRC, these were available in lots of sizes and can also be cut easily to fit.

If you want to roll your own, find an Ikea store, and look at their different available foam mattresses. Check out the "as is" dept for displays marked down. Most foams can be cut easily with a eletric knife. Make a clamp out of 2x4s, crush firmly, and cut to your heart's content. The typical razor or utility knife will not do a satisfactory job.

Agree. Electric knife with serrated blades does the trick for cutting foam.
Be sure to plug the knife into a 110 outlet otherwise you'll be doing a lot
of stroking.

I put a $100 queen air mattress in the back of my sidebath ex royale.
The interior has been heavily modded tho so I don't know how stock it is.
It is extremely comfortable, almost as good as the waterbed in the house....

My coach came with "a high dollar self contained air bed" purchased by the PO. Built in compressor and control. Works fine we just did not like it at all.
Someone make me an offer.

We bought a regular mattress from Penny. They even delivered it. I told them, it isn't going to fit back there very well, you will have to bend it.
The reply was, "No sweat".
After much grunting and groaning and bending (one guy had two feet up like a spider on its back) they had it back there.
"No Sweat."
We like it.

OK, So the guy got back with me. There are two types of Latex Foam he has in 6", one is a 60/40 blend the other a 20/80 blend.
He is sending me samples.
The Cost for the 60/40 for a twin is 170.00, the 80/20 will be around $140, that does not include shipping. The Good News is they are cut to a standard Twin size, the bad news is I have to buy 6 of them  . PM me if anyone whats two.
I can also get queens, but don't have costs yet.
