We have a friend that is actively looking for a GMC. We all know that you
should buy the best one that you can afford, and that is what she is doing.
However, her pocketbook doesn't allow her to purchase one that is
completely restored. So, she knows that she will need to do work and spend
money on it as she goes - as so many of the rest of us have done and are
doing. This said, it is been really disappointing that of the 6 coaches
that she or a surrogate has spent time and effort to go and look at - at
dealers and personal parties that are actively advertising them - she has
only been able to hear two of them run and has not been able to test drive
any of them. It seems that if a person wants to sell their coach they would
have tires that hold air and or are not going to explode when it is moved
and or engine batteries that will start the engine. The last one she looked
at and would probably have bought, she couldn't take it for a test drive as
the tags weren't current and there was no insurances on it, so the owner
wouldn't even let her drive it up their 50 foot driveway. It is very
disheartening to drive 6 hours, after making an appointment, to see a coach
and not even be able to know if the engine turns over or if the trani works.
So, if you are selling your coach, please make sure it can be taken on a
test drive or let the potential buyer know before hand that it will need to
be towed/jumped/or have tires put on before it can be moved, before they
come to see it. Should be sales 101, but from her experience, it sure
isn't. And she is a serious buyer that came with cash in her pocket each
and every time..
