The last time my wife was with me and used the shower, the diverter didn't divert very well. About 70% of the water ran into the sink and only a bit made it to the shower head.

I promised her I'd get this fixed before Bean Station and had planned on just biting the bullet and putting in a separate faucet for the shower head.

AFTER I took the bulkhead down and made a trip to Lowes to get the various Tees and Elbows to hook up the new faucet, I decided to make one more go at fixing the diverter valve. It has a single slotted screw that holds the whole assembly in the spout. The shop manual shows 4 O rings, two small and two large. One of the small ones is INSIDE the assembly and the knob has to be unscrewed in order to get it apart. It looked OK but I replaced it anyway.

What I had missed previously is the front O ring on the main body. In the shop manual it looks kind of 'fat' but there is no groove for it to sit in. Apparently it rides on top of the taper. The first one I tried was too small and managed to go up inside the main body. So I tried a larger one that just barely will stay on the top of the taper. SUCCESS!

Now when the water is running, I pull the knob and with a small SNAP the divert closes 100% and the shower starts doing it's thing. I did it about 30 times but before I put everything away and back together, I'll do it a bunch more. The last thing I want is for it to not work when the wife wants it to... Shocked Shocked Laughing

I have one of the big variety pack of O rings I got somewhere. The one on the taper isn't right. I need a bit fatter ring but it appears to work and I'll look around for the correct size.

I can take photos if anyone is interested.
