There is someone on Ebay selling new 12v Jabsco macerators #18590-2092 for
$60 & shipping for $14. This is one of the best prices I have seen; normal
prices run well over $100. Ebay item #160921503535

Thanks for the heads up, grabbed one for myself even though I'm not sure I'll ever need it. Is this truly essential?

No, it's only a little more essential than gas tanks, wheels and a windshield. The only part of RVing that I wasn't looking forward to (OK, other than gas stations...) was dumping the black water tank. I just did that today after a week in Mexico, and it is a virtual non-issue... pull the black water blade valve, start the macerator, close the black water valve, open the gray water valve, and now both tanks are empty and the system is "clean" (yes, a relative term). It simplifies the dirtiest task we have to perform, and makes it SO much less nasty that it would be worth 5x what they're selling these macerators for.

Yep, what Mark said. No stinking way I would ever use a 3 inch hose other than when a maserator aint working, and I carry a spare. Never leave home without one. I do not believe in roughing it.

You're right; it is not a Jabsco; I just did not pay attention to the
listing; but I did buy one. My apologies to anyone that bought one
thinking it was a Jabsco.

JR,

The seller "gotcha."

The auction is entitled; "Sealed Macerator Self-Priming Waste Pump Replaces Jabsco 18590-2092"

The operative word in the auction title is "Replaces."

It does not say it is a Jabsco.

Caveat Emptor!

Regards,
Rob

Based on the label it appears to be a SEAFLO brand.

I see that the site you provided says it should not run dry. Most if not all of the newer Jabscos can be run dry without harm. So I have to assume that pump has inferior o rings and seals. Those that bought this will have to watch that they immediate shut it off when it starts to run dry. I have had a mascerator for over thirty years and I ruined my first Jabsco because it ran dry for a short time.

I got caught up in the excitement of getting a good buy and since we were told it was a Jabsco I bought one without reading the fine print. If someone wants it for my cost (plus shipping to them) I will sell it. Or , I can bring it to them if they are at the next convention.
