After having an iPhone for a few years I just learned something new that will allow you to extend your battery life.
It turns out that when you use an app it remains on. To turn off the apps, with your phone in, tap the round on button twice. Some app icons will appear at the bottom of the screen. Hold one down and they will flash and a minus sign will appear on each one. Click on each minus sign and they will turn off. The first time I did this I found that I had 20 apps running in the background.
If you turn them off periodically your battery will last longer between recharges.
