I have been looking for something I can do to help somehow.
I am quite handy, and have been doing all kinds of engineering for 40 years.
What are some of the things on the GMC wish List?
I hear the Air Bags are/where an Issue. But it looks like that was solved.
I am currently working on replacement brackets for my Old Air Tank and Compressor. I am not sure how many Compressors and tanks mounted in the left front engine compartment. The brackets look like they are original GMC. Is anyone interested in a set once they are designed and tested?

Welcome! Glad to see another North Carolina neighbor on here. Before anyone else tells you.. you need to add your info on the bottom line.. year, model, location etc. Just helps getting the right info back to you.

Im in Monroe right off 485 if I can help with anything.

Welcome to the forum.

One great strength of our forum is that everyone contributes where they can and from their own life's experiences.

Post some photos if your new brackets -- we will all be eager to see.

Welcome to the group Phillip. This is the place. As you can see many of us are getting ready to head to Dothan, Alabama for a GMC convention. The next one is in September and will be in Branson, Mo.
We are always looking for guys/gals who are good at coming up with replacement parts. You will fit right in here. I own a 74. We have two air pumps under the refrigerator. Keeps them inside and out of the weather. Also have a one gallon air tank under there.

Phillip,

As an email user, I read your email, but did not know where you lived. I
guess the forum users could see where you lived. Someone said NC. I
live in Winston-Salem. Are you anywhere nearby?? I have owned 4 GMC's
since 1997; still have 3 of them. One is here at my home in NC and the
other 2 are at my summer home on the Oregon coast. I do almost all my own
work on my main coach. I guess you, as an engineer, have the ability and
skills to do your own work too. If I can be of help, just let me know.

Phillip's sig says Lexington, NC. Mapquest says that is 21 miles from Winston-Salem.

It sure looks like a professionally designed and made bracket. It is much better than anything I could design or build.

Phillip,

Looks really nice.

Being in Lexington, NC, I presume you know Barry Owen. If so, say hello
for me. If not, you need to look him up -- his GMC(s) should be easy to
find. Haven't seen him at any of the rallies for several years but have
heard he's got several around his shop there.

A project someone should tackle is the 'bird cage' structure that supports the instrument panel. They are all failing due to age and the plastic used.... if you fix one spot it breaks somewhere else. Not sure if it could be fabed from aluminum and a jig and welded? Seems like the cost of a mold would be very high to make in plastic.

Barry is who I got my GMC From Smile, I store it at his warehouse, He is a great guy, I have learned so much from him in a short time. It was his Son's best friend that welded up the bracket for me. He is on his way down to Nationals. I could not go because I am not road worthy yet.

Yes, I was thinking about a complete replacement. There is a guy close to me that makes a Fiberglass Replacement, I want to go see what that looks like, Once I get on the road, that will be once of my first places to go.

Phillip,

Barry and I got together here at Dothan (GMCMI "Convention" -- not
"Nationals" :-) ) yesterday and talked about you -- hope your ears weren't
burning. :-)

Too bad you couldn't be here. Maybe at Branson in Sept? Maybe you'll have
some new GMC products by then. If not, you'll probably pick up some ideas
there.

Is Barry Owens there?? I was going to go to his shop in Lexington Monday

wait until he gets back.

Yes, Barry's here; he and I have spent quite a bit of time together over
the past couple of days. He's very entertaining with his tales of NASCAR
events; drivers; and, most interesting to me, the technical aspects and
rules.

I'll get the info for you, Bdub.
