I know several folks are on their way to Dothan already. Today was just a perfect day in SE Mo. 70 plus degrees and sunshine. Teri worked inside our coach while I did things on outside. We are getting excited to see everyone. Hoping no hard freezes in the next few days. I got the pink stuff out and put half a tank of fresh water in. Will keep my eyes on the forecast and run the heat if we need to. Did have to do that one night last year the week before Shawnee. It has been one long cold winter here in Missouri. Today's weather was really a welcomed site for Teri and me.
Last time at Dothan the weather was not too good. The vendors will be inside this time. That makes things a lot easier on everyone.
Our plan is to hit the road about 1 pm Thursday. We will drive til I get tired. Hoping to make Montgomery before pulling off for a few hours rest. Will be in Dothan by noon Friday.
Pray for Jim K. He has a long haul to make.
See everyone in a few days.
Dan

We left SE MI about 9.
Bought gas at Alexis road - Toledo (cheap there).
We were going to hold up in a rest area north of Louisville, but we were there too soon and it was not very pleasant.
GasBuddy (love that site) said that Costco on No L'ville was a good price (3.44), so we pressed the tank (bought a bottle of JackD) and then asked my phone if there was a Golder Corral in striking range. YES They are serving Prime Rib.
It was real and pretty good.
So now we are holdup at the rest area at about 115mi.
Working on the second manhattan. It is 65°F out side and I'm not planning to heat the coach tonight.

Tomorrow is Cub Run Cave and Antique Archeology - Nashville.
At least that is the plan.

It looks like we just beat the weather.

Sounds good Matt. Take pics of that place in Nashville if they will let you. I hear they are busy on weekends. You will be going close to Roger's place when you head south on the Trace.

Randy and I will spend another night or two in New Orleans before making
the final run to Dothan. Ran into Kim and Keith last night at the same
campground.

We need a can of Duracool. Anybody bringing some to Dothan?

Margie,

If I can find room in the S-10, I'll bring a couple of cans of Duracool --
do you need gauges?

Sorry to disagree with you, Dan, but I'm hoping
for cool since we don't have working dash air!

Did just finish adding the little wind wings to
get some outside air into the "toll" windows.

Last time I ran the Onan, the exhaust had a
lot of smoke, so that may not be option either.

Bringing nine cans of duracool and a gauge set.
Hoping to find some expert assistance on problem.
Maybe somebody will bring a vacuum pump, also!

Hoping to leave Monday or Tuesday. It'll be a long
trip with no air and no cruise control. Hope all
the other stuff holds up!

Mac, I been looking at the forecast. Looks like coller and rain for our trip Thursday. Glad you are bringing the gauges. I may need a can added to mine. Kept a couple of spare cans of Duracool for myself when we took those to Goshen.
Are you running 40 to Memphis then 78 over to 65?
Dan
got our's clean for the rainy day drive Very Happy

Darn, Mac, the S-10's jam-packed full already; I'm not at all sure I can
squeeze the vacuum pump in. I think you'll just have to come on up to the
post-convention rally to fix your HVAC. There'll be too much interesting
stuff going on at the Convention, anyway.

Dan

Busy is not the word.
In Eu Claire, we had the place to ourselves. We got there this afternoon and there was a line half of the way down the building waiting just to get in......
We didn't wait. But, I do have a neat picture of Chaumiere with their sign in the background.

Next is the same for Red Jacket, the Hatteras Light and the Wright monument. I love having pictures of the coach in known places.

We are going east on I-40 and then take the Indian Nation Turnpike
(toll road) south through Hugo, OK and Paris, TX and then to I-20.
My history with "Money Pit" not working well on hills is looking for
more gradual slopes and NOT the mountains in AR. We'll run through
Shreveport and may make that a first day destination. It all depends
on how things are going.

I hope we can make it in three days but I'm not sure of total miles
from OKC to Dothan. Brakes are good and fuel leaks around carb are
a thing of the past (I hope!). As I said, no air or cruise control.
Belts and radiator hoses replaced after our breakdown on way home
from Shawnee last year. Didn't even get to complete a 50 mile round
trip! SHEESH!

It finally warmed up enough to get busy on the coach, but cold front
hit right around sundown. Rain possible tonight, Sunday, and maybe
even Monday here.

We have three stops to make on way home from Dothan. Judy's #2
brother is a Baptist pastor in Pensacola, I have a email boating
friend near Fairhope, AL to maybe see, and friends in Ocean
Springs, MS (military retiree and wife) who have same wedding
date as Judy and I and we've known since 1962 and haven't seen
in over ten years.

This is going to one heckuva trip if we can make it to the end!

Ok Mac. Thanks for the response. I have traveled from Shreveport to Dothan and all good roads, flat. Have also done 10 and good road. So, should be a no hills ride for yall. We love hills so busting Mississippi and Alabama right down the middle. Will return on 412 across southern Tennessee after visiting our kids in Columbia, Tn.
Re the Black List, I have not looked at it lately but seem to recall that it was updated in 2012. I keep a copy on this netbook that travels with us everywhere. Streets and Trips is good for the Black List, Walmarts, and Truck Stops. We use it on every trip.

Roger Black just posted updated info to get to
his latest version dated 12 March 2013.

I have put the URL in my favorites and have
downloaded both the pdf and xls versions to
my files and put ALL my GMC info on a thumb
drive and will put all into my two laptops!

Don't have Streets and Trips, but just bought
the large detail, easy-to-read Rand McNally
atlas sold at Wally World, so have all that
info as well.

I'll have my Garmin GPSMap 276C on the dash
in front of me and Judy will have the Garmin
Nuvi 550 in front of her! Maybe we can find
our way to Dothan if the coach holds up!

Flying on I-20, going thru Vicksburg, Recommended do not fill-up in Vburg. Gas is 15 cents a gallon cheaper in Jackson ($3.35 yesterday). Easy gas is at Clinton, Springfield exit (first one pass Natachez Trace exit, Go North first light, you will see Kroger's gas station, reasonable here ($3.40 yesterday). But, if you are continuing on I-20, towards Meridain, Gas is a little cheaper at Pilot, or Petro, or Flying J. They are all within 2 miles of each other, near the intersection of I-20 and I-55. If you have plenty of fuel, head South towards Hattiesburg, and watch for gas prices. Hattiesburg is also a good place for cheap gas. Towns on either side of Hattiesburg are higher. Cheapest gas in Mobile area (if you are retired military) is the USCG gas station. You will drive right past it on the way from Hattiesburg to Mobile towards Florida. Do not follow your GPS into Mobile, not worth the hassle. Hit I-65, go south to I-10. More GMC friendly than through town. Get gas in Alabama, before you get into Florida, gas tax is lower in Alabama. Last discount station on I-10 is Flying J, at Foley exit.
In Shreveport, Recommend Sams' Southern Eatery for great Southern Cooking. Good menu, excellent prices. Located along side the Interstate i-20, on the west side of town.
P.M. me for my phone number if you plan on stopping in V-Burg. Battlefield is an interesting couple of hours visit, especially the U.S.S. Cairo. Great place for good Southern Breakfast is Bovina Exit 11. Bovina Cafe at exit for $5 breakfast, includes coffee.
Tom, MS II
P.S. If you had P.M. turned on, I would have sent this by that method.
