Hi all
I have coach interior just about ready to upholster and replace the head
liner. The coach has the original vinyl headliner and I would like to
take it out and set new upholstery on the ceiling. I pulled down a bit
of the vinyl and find a kind of cardboard board underneath. If I pull
the cardboard liner what do I find under it. When I did my first coach
the ceiling had 1/4" plywood on it and I just glued the upholstery to
it. Curious, What do I find under the cardboard.
thanks
Marcel

If the coach is still original, there will be nothing bout spray foam insulation above the cardboard. It may be missing or 1/2 depth in some places as it wasn't done very consistently.

Recommend coating the top side of your plywood with something to waterproof the surface.

Good idea, I had not thought of that. Will use a good coat of Kilz or a
pigmented shellac.
Thanks for the thought

Better yet, use something totally impervious to water, like "tile board"
(Melamine coated Masonite as used for cheap shower walls). Cheap and
readily available at Lowes or Home Depot or ...

Here is an FRP pictorial replacement...

http://teamteets.com/gmc/newheadliner.html

It has been 10 years and it looks exactly as installed, except for the
little girl in the pictures who is looking at colleges and drives herself
anywhere she wants to go. But she does still play soccer.

Pictures look great. Just finishing up cabinets in shop. Then the
headliner. These thinks become like a snow ball. Each day a new
adventure. Formica should be here tomorrow for large interior cabinets
and bathroom module outside.
No big deal, I have a full blown shop and this is very restfull.
Thanks again for all the great pictures and inputs

Marcel,
Check out FRP at Home Depot before you change it out to more cardboard or
luan plywood. It is an excellent, easy to clean, choice. Plus, it looks
very nice in all the coaches I've seen it in.

Good morning Steve
I have build 60-70 Subway restaurants and I have about seen all the
white FRP I need to see. I know and appreciate what you said as did
others but enough is enough. I will go with the Luan Mahogany and cover
it with fabric. This will give me a time to run power for second a/c
unit and additional cables for television and satellite dish. All you
guys thanks for all the great ideas and I am not trying to slight any
one but I now see Subway kitchens in my dreams.
Thanks to all

I still like the ABS plastic, easy to work with, no smell.

There are photos of Arch installing his as well as some pics I took on the
