Joe,
The second photo following the link, showing the wide shelf, clarifies your
situation -- the fresh water tank in my 76 Birchaven is beside the right
wheel well rather than behind the rear bath wall. I can see how the new
location allows a better position for the toilet -- and frees up the space
where my H2O tank is now.
Do try the ball valve.
