I pulled it out this afternoon and unbottened the tinwork on the starter side. The starter had departed the engine. The bracket cracked beside the welds, and it ate the overrunning clutch in the process. So, a new starter (which uses a redesigned bracket) will heal it. $125 last time I looked, mail order. under 400 hours on the clock, and when it runs it runs nicely. However, I'm not minded to see what is next to fail on it. I have to do some more measuring, but it looks as of, should I get a short sparkplug, my Kohler 4500 will fit. If it will, I will take it to Lenny The Guru for checkup and then stuff it in the coach. Options are a 2500 Onan I have - which I'd rather not, siince it's marginal; or a 5500 Yamamamamaha I have. In that the Kohler is an 1800 RPM set, and the others are 3600, it6's first choice.
Anybody want a Generac 3.6NP cheeep? Needs a starter. Or Cheeep + $125 and it will have a new starter. Lightweight enough one person can get it in and out of the coach, and it will fit in a 23'.
