What's the current opinion on the best bike rack solution for the GMC?

I've seen posts about how the ladder hooks put too much strain on the ladders. Is this true.

Also, if I go the ladder hook route, I will probably need to reinforce my ladder, as it is coming loose from the fiberglass in back. Anyone know a good link or instruction on how to make this repair?
