Anyone ever have a problem with tilt mechanism on steering colunm not staying in place ? I know from experience that removing and disassembling a column is a real chore. made a quick fix for mine by forming a "splint" out of aluminum bar 1/4" x 3/4" and bending it to bring the col. down to its lowest point.
This by the way is half a notch lower then it would go before.
A couple of hose clamps and installation is about 2 min.

Thank You, Other than having a busted tilt housing the only other thing that might cause it not to lock is the small spring under the tilt lever. I have a good set of stock housings $25 +, pm me an address if you want them. You can replace the lower housing in the coach by unhooking the steering shaft at the CV and removing it. It is easier on the bench. You will need to look at the plastic joint area Take note as to which way the steering wheel mark is. Looking down the shaft, when the mark is at 12:00 the lower fork clamp slot is on the right. You will probably find a wear spot on the fork.

The wear pattern is caused by the spring in the ball, grease and turn the BALL over, not the shaft it goes back indexed the same way it came out. This puts the spring on a virgin surface and puts tension back in the joint.
This would be the ideal time to update the column to stalk mounted switches and Caddy Telescopic..
