Hi there All
Got to thinking that a good solar panel set up would be good idea for
new coach. Does any one have good solar set up that is not Rube
Goldberg. I would like a good complete kit and and good set of
directions. I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Some one has already
done this. Let me know
Thanks

This system, although somewhat small, works well as long as we watch our power consumption.

I went way overboard on the cable and controller sizes so I could expand the system, by adding more panels, in the future. I got all the stuff from here:

I installed a solar system last summer, pictures are here:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6188-rays-solar-battery-charging-system.html

I have 250 watts of panels on the roof, I used a Xantrex C60 charge controller
and added a Trimetric Meter for monitoring the batteries, the system works
great.

I converted all interior lighting to LED, so the only thing we operate on
batteries are the lighting, fantastic vents and water pumps. Based on my calc's
in solar charging and daily power usage, we can pretty much to boon-dock camping
indefinitely.

Dan Gregg also has extensive knowledge of GMC solar systems, I got a lot of my
info from Dan.

Thanks Ray,

Yours looks great too. I also have a Trimetric 2025 battery meter which is essential for keeping track of what's going on with your batteries, if you want to dry camp.

Dan Gregg was the source of most of my (limited) knowledge on this subject too. There is no substitute for experience and Dan is one of the pioneers in this. It really helps to pick the brain of someone who has done these things and learned how to do it the hard way. But that's what this forum is all about.

where is the best place to buy this Trimetric 2025 and will it do more than one solar cell, if you expand and say 4 or 6 - 6 volt batteries in series. ??? mick anaheim ca. 77 playa beach

OLga came with 2 panels each 45 W One is on the aircon the other one mounted on a disregarded dishmount This allows me to tilt and turn the panel from the inside !
Tilting and turning towards the sun can easealy double the input
Max I have seen is 6A on a sunny day at lat 55
That should keep us going forever, no tv, no mircowave and a 3wayfridge
In addition to that is the windmill !
240A batteripack

I will add some pics shortly

Mickey,

A Bogart Trimetric will monitor only one bank. How many stacks you have in that bank does not matter. It is limited to 24V. They do make other units for higher voltage and one for multiple banks.

Olga came with a motorcycleplatform and the bar is a stay to tie the bike to
At the same time the vertical part is the holder for the windmill post
This is a 2,5 meter post , the windmill is a http://www.telepower.com.tw/userfile/44352/503-data-sheet.pdf
I have not tried it in real live yet, but I have high expectations for our futere boondock live

I have uplaoded pictures of the solarpanels on picasa and will take a picture of the windmill as soon as it is up again
