I recently got rid of my air card and router for internet. Got the Verizon 10 hour battery hotspot. Cant think of the number. But anyway, the dang thing acts as a gps. No longer have to use a hockey puck for Streets and Trips. Pretty slick. Has an external antenna jack for 3/4 g antenna.

So S & T will 'find' it when you turn it on?

Is this via Bluetooth?

Wifi signal I am sure. Works like a top. I put off getting one of these devices for a few years until they came out with one that suited my needs. This is the Verizon Jetpack 4620LE. Battery will last 8-10 ours. Any little camera usb cord will let me charge it in the car. Has the external antenna jack and smaller than an iPhone.
I am sure many others here are using it but I am slow to catch on sometimes. Will allow 10 units to connect to it. I was having lots of trouble with my 3g air card and Cradlepoint router.

We got one last summer in Albuquirkie on our long trip. I noticed, later,
that it works well with my iPad mini since I got only the WiFi version.

Of course, we use it with our antenna.

Thanks!! We got one of those, which I use on weekends... wasn't aware it was GPS advantaged though.  I'll bag a mapping program off my Audemat and see how it does.

I cant figure out which connector it uses. Of all of the connectors I have in my stock none of them fit. I bought a small 3/4g mag antenna that came with the jumper. On our GMC I have the short Wilson Trucker but it does not do 700 meg for 4g. I can find the tall one to replace it but I want the short one and can't find one, yet. If you see one let me know. The 3 foot one is just too tall. I tore Bert and Fay's telephone line down with it so I got the short one to replace it. Have not had an occassion to need the little mag mount yet. Would like to locate an antenna for the GMC roof before heading to Dothan. I know there are some dead Verizon spots in Alabama.
I found out about the gps feature by accident when I had Streets and Trips up planning a route a couple of weeks back.
They were going to charge me 50 bux for this thing but I whined long enough that they just gave it to me, free, with the 2 yr contract. Yall know I can really pull those tears and I worked them over hard. Very Happy
We had unlimited service but never used over 2.5 a month so I decided it was time to save 10 dollars a month. This one is only 50 bux. I was paying 60.07. The LE is the extended battery and I am telling you it is great. I have used it for 10 hours before charging.

I wonder if the Verizon 4620 LE GPS functions off of the cell towers vs satelite? So I wonder if it might be more accurate at positioning because more, closer towers?

btw Dan, I read the article in Motorhome Marketplace about Arch. Thanks for the headsup. But I don't have the issue with the article about front bearing monitors. Could you make a copy of it and bring it to Dothan? Or is it maybe online somewhere.

Thanks

Dan, it sounds like a mifi will work well for you at 2g/mo usage, but for others reading along at home and thinking that this might be a way to stream Netflix, they need to be aware that their version of "unlimited" and Verizon's version of "unlimited" may not match up.

The comments are worthwhile reading, too.

The only unlimited data devices I know of are on Clear's WiMax 4g, such as
their device and Virgin's.

I like mine, but it is urban only.

US Cellular ran a door-buster unlimited 4g plan this past Dec-Jan. I put it on the wife's Galaxy 3. It's got a looooonnnng way to go before you could use it for entertainment.

We were grandfathered into the unlimited Verizon back in 08 when they stopped selling it, 60 bux. I now have 5 gig for 50 bux with a 10 dollar overage for 6 gig. We do not watch movies so this is great for us. They do not advertize what I have so I went to the local Verizon store and got the phone number to call so I could get it. Then I whined and moaned til they gave me the 4620 LE for free. Dont get the L or the battery wont last long. You can buy the extended batteries fairly cheap though.
Now, I just found out my 21 inch Wilson Trucker is 700 mhz. That is great. Had 2 bars, plugged in the antenna on top of the coach and jumped right up to 4 bars on 4g.
The gps is the unit picking up the satellites, not the tower. The more I play with this the more I like it. Nothing else I can do today anyway, still stuck in this wheel chair. But, I am improving.
Got two one watt commercial wifi amps for sale and 2 3g direct hook up cell amps. Various beams and other wifi stuff.
