As I've mentioned, I'm in Florida at the moment. Somehow, I got away
without even one of the 13 copies I should have of the GMC Parts
Interchange List. Meanwhile, Stick's new coach is on my rack awaiting my
return to show HIM how to remove the final drive and replace the two
back-to-back seals on the input to the final drive. And the gasket between
the FD and the TH-425.

I'd intended to send the P/N's for those parts to Stick so he could order
them in before I get home. Duhhh--can't do it without the List. Would
someone please look up those numbers and post them for Stick?

Stick, with the numbers, try to get those 3 parts -- 2 seals with the same
P/N and the gasket. NAPA, CarQuest, Advance... any SHOULD be able to get
them overnight. If not, better call JimK or someone for overnight shipment
so we can fix your problem this weekend before Kerry arrives Monday.

OK, here's the Final Drive Seals info:

The transmission to final drive gasket was easy to find and is readily
available "everywhere": Felpro RDS30094

The back-to-back seals in the final drive, to prevent the 90W and ATF from
mixing are (I have not found a source -- check JimK): National 8994R60

Ken - I assume we are having this conversation online so others may glean some information or provide additional information.

I understand the gasket is available. Are you saying that the 2 seals National 8994R60 are identical?

Have others found these locally?

Thanks - Stick

Ken

Here is a post by Manny from early last year....

quote.....

The lh (large) National 91585
The rh (small) National 96135
The double seal (pinion) National 8994R60

It's been a while but the pinion seals were only available through Cinnebar.

The real reason why these seals are hard to come by is that it is sold as
an OEM part and one needs to order 400 at a time.
The pinion seals, there are no subs. that work and the Left side one with 2
vent holes and fully baffled. The ones for the right side is easy to get
anywhere.
Since we supply the final driver gear assembly, it only makes sense to
inquire here and I will give you part # if you want and not be insulted, as
you'll be calling back later wasting your time.
I can dish out crap at times. wow!

Ken: I did some backtracking, CRC shows #16364 to be interchange for National 8994R60. Crc dimentions are inside 1.625, outside 2.750. It is a single lip, spring loaded seal. Motion Industries can get 2 out of Chicago in 2 days, local NAPA says they have 1 in Birmingham.

Depth of the seal is only 11/64 inch, there is no space to put 2 seals back
to back.

I'm with the fine GMC venders.
I never understand why folks run all over the net and in person looking for your needs.
When you can email or pick up the phone and get help.
The venders have already done the running for us.
Thank You

So Jim - make sure I ordered the right parts from you this morning. Should be under "Boyce Miller" and are going out overnight. I have to clear my machine off Ken's rack - the projects are lining up.

Jim,

Thank you for being there for us! Don't misinterpret my trying to find the
P/N's and local sources, without asking you, as not being appreciative. As
busy as you are, and as little profit as there can be in these simple
parts, it seems more appropriate to get them locally "by 7:30 tomorrow
morning" when possible.

Stick's now ordered them from you and they'll probably arrive in time for
us to meet our schedule -- but we probably used up more of your, and
Nick's, and maybe another staff member's, time than you'll make on the
order.

Thanks again,

Ken H.

seal that is thick will not work too well. .250 back to back will be
.50+, the correct one ..172 will occupy .344.The space is limited.
We use to use some back 25 years ago with poor results.(.250)
This is a free world, but when I can see a mistake being made, then I''ll
call it as I see it.
It is not about money, I spend 70% of my day from 7:30-6:30 on the phone
helping people with question along with Nick and we have 2 technicians in
the shop working on coaches.
We make the big bucks on air filter housings and clean room components.
Our GMC customer base is well over 3,000 so we know were doing right to the
community.
If people do not like what or how I express myself on some issues and not
notice what I have done, then be it..
Hey, Ken, I'm in no way upset at anyone here,it's just the way I am at
times.
Ken H has always helped people I sent to him for assistance any time of day
and weekens.
I'm proud to have him sitting on the Board of International as I had him
nominated and he took it on and has contributed in many ways.
