I am seeking a trailer to carry my motorcycles. intent is to be able to sightsee while camped. Most times will be my heavy dresser, sometimes will be wifes bike also.
As I look at trailers i see neat folding trailers that are rust buckets.(budget not at new stuff)
I think open folding trailers due to no desire to buy transmission for coach due to over loading.
Is the 1500 rated tow limit truely that convervative since others pull cars?
Any input is appreciated, for round figures bikes weight 800 plus and 600 plus alone.

Sir: I have been happy with the Homesteader that I borrowed 5 yrs ago. It has a drop down tailgate ramp. Great for the golf cart or I have it set with 3 removeable wheel chocks and 4 tie down D rings for each. one center and one left side front, one right side set back to clear side door. Comes in handy for friends to sleep in when it rains or to work in.

When I haul more than 2 scooters or somethin besided the Tracker I have a Hustler car trailer.

I do have an external tranny cooler and have had no issues with the transmission pulling anything.

Brian,
My preference for an enclosed bike trailer is the Wells Cargo Tote Wagon.
http://wellscargo.com/wellscargo-trailers/cargo-trailers/tote-wagon-6-foot-wide/gallery/Dust
proof and the ramp is more than capable of handling a harley. I use a
condor wheel chock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysyHwJRP2lU) that is
removable by extracting two pins from the mounting bracket so the trailer
can be used for other than hauling a bike. I also mounted two sections of E
track on the floor of the trailer for tie down purposes although sometimes
I think the condor unit is almost all that is needed and I overnight park
it in the trailer often using only that chock to hold it. Nice unit. My
GL1800, which is longer and heavier than a dresser, easily fits in the
trailer. Nice to be able to garage it during transit and foul weather. I
bought a helmet shelf from Summit and it has provisions for hanging riding
suits and leathers underneath. I've had well over 2,000 lbs in the trailer
and it towed well with the GMC. I have a battery mounted in the rear of
the trailer to operate the lighting system and the cheapo HF solar panel on
the roof keeps it peaked out. Very nice trailer to tow and probably the
best made one out there.

If you are looking for a far better solution
to tying your bike down for trailer transport
have a look at www.wheeldock.com
These do NOT require you to compress your
front suspension, but tie your front wheel
down to the trailer floor or truck bed and
allow your bike's front suspension to "work."
You only need to put a pair of tie-down straps
over the seat and snug down slightly to keep
the rear wheel from bouncing left/right during
transport. I have a pair of them; one for my
HD Road Glide and one for wife's Dynaglide.
They are sized for the front wheel/tire.
They also have an option for a fixed mount to
your vehicle floor that will lock the device in
place and you can remove the Wheeldock to hold
your bike upright in your garage when it's not
being hauled. I have three of these adaptors on
by low-boy open trailer so I can haul one or
both bikes as desired.
