G'day,

Below you will find a quote from O'Brien Truckers for making the plaque.

Now you're wondering; "why the 'h' did he do this when he's not interested in selling them?" Cause I was curious and nope I'm still
not interested.

I sent an email to Carl Hilton on Thursday, February 21st asking him if he had any more and to date I haven't received a response.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,

It's the initial amortization and pattern "tuning" we have to do on a brand new pattern. The second order of a new plaque shares the
same pricing as plaques made from an existing plaque or pattern.

Dennis,

That was FAST!

Thanks!

I'm a bit confused, could you please explain why if I provide the sample the plaques are more expensive if I order less than 50?

Thanks,
Rob.

Rob,

Here are the answers to your questions:

1) Setup cost

a. Sample provided = No setup charge - we use your plaque as the pattern - no changes to plaque allowed.
b. Sample not provided = $125

2) Price per plaque

Sample Provided
a. Qty 1-9 = $45
b. Qty 10-24 = $30
c. Qty 25-49 = $25
d. Qty 50 + = $20

Sample Not Provided
a. Qty 1-9 = not available - 10 plaque minimum on brand new order
b. Qty 10-24 = $25
c. Qty 25-49 = $21
d. Qty 50 + = $20

3) Paint and sand > $7.50 each

All prices plus shipping.

All set?

Rob,

Good job on the homework. So, the question remains: Who is going to do the
job of being the reseller. I was willing to do it but want to be sure no one
else with the scalable art work, initiative, and/or money is going to jump
in. For sure, we don't need two dudes doing the deed. I would also think
that some firm pre-orders would be appropriate before jumping into the fire.
Of course, there's the price shift that has an effect based on quantity and,
for sure, the dude acting as the jobber should get a some change for the
effort.

It ought to be someone that shows up at our events. I can handle GMCMI and
have a friend that could handle the GMCWS when it comes time for
distribution. Aggregating an order makes sense if delivery is made at a
rally. Otherwise, postage and handling fees would be incurred.

Interesting pricing strategy. No charge if you have a sample. $125 if you
don't. Cost per is higher if sample supplied, lower if none supplied.
Somewhere there's a crossing point but I'm not going to take the time to
figure out that bit of mathematical manipulation.

Well, I think those are good prices as long as Rob loans out his unit so they can look at it. Very Happy Rob is too nice.
Anyway, I will buy one for sure. But these prices are for the guy selling them so I expect you to make a profit. Maybe this should go private emailing to those who might be interested in procuring and selling. That does not include me.
Thanks for getting this information.

Dan,

I am leaving Sydney on March 19th to head for the US of A. If someone steps up and says they will undertake having the GMC plaque
made I will bring mine with me and send it to O'Brien's to use to make the pattern as long as O'Brien's assures me it won't get
messed up in the process.

My thought exactly. At their current prices, Bryon, or someone else with his skill set and willingness to be a vendor, could recover a significant portion of the printer's initial set-up cost. After that, handle, knobs, trim pieces, yada, yada...

I'll link to makerbot, as its Thing-O-Matic set the standard for the market. I believe it is currently priced at $999. I'm not sure it's the one I'd buy, though, as a lot of open-source and/or commercial competitors are nipping its heels.

3D printing would be an inexpensive way to go if you owned the printer to cover it's cost. The new makerBot at $2200 would be very nice. Output would be in ABS. The splintered metal printer's are a bit more expensive and the material is dear.
The FMCA plaque is ABS. Long, durable service life.
I suspect that there are many more things that could Very Happy be made on a 3D printer that would be useful on a GMC. Imagination and effort, Edison's rule; lots of failure rewards success.
Rob, please bring it with you to International.

Why do you think I have all these links handy, Tom? $499 (some assembly required)

Interesting thread. I still don't see what I'm looking for or that Rob was
hinting about. So, I'll be more obvious with the questions.

1) Does anyone want to fork out the $900 to front the project? By that, I
mean take orders, get payments, have plaque made, ship/deliver plaques?

2) Does anyone really want one or two at $33.50 so that the monkey doing the
work makes a dollar or two for the time and effort?

Thus far I've seen about eight, at most, possible orders. To be a realistic
venture there would need to be a minimum of 25 firm orders (committed) and
the prospect of selling another 10 in a short term.

I'm willing but I don't see adequate response. If someone else wants to do
it and needs the artwork, I can supply that. I do understand what O'Brien
wants in the way of scalable vector artwork. I do that all the time for
plaques, nametags, embroidered apparel, etc.

So, if seriously interested respond to question 1 or 2 above. Otherwise,
this is just another dead fish in the great GMC sea of ideas.

Rob, I do believe you understand the point. Correct?

I'm in for 4 @ 33.50, Byron.

You know, it's caught my attention *many* times that the GMC community actively tries to promote its vendors (while also trying to save a buck). This is fairly unusual in online communities where any sort of link to a commercial product or service is usually strictly forbidden. I realize that it works here mostly because the community has a relatively small, cohesive membership but I still think this is one of its great strengths.

I have been contacted by people and advised that there is a plaque exactly
hike the one shown .
They asked me to contact the owner of the casting to see if this can happen.
I should know this week if this will happen.
I have other projects, but since they asked me to consider following it up,
I concurred to do so as there is no need to invest in costly molds, etc.

Jim,

I bought mine from Carl Hilton and last Thursday I sent him an email asking him if he had any more. To date no response.

By the way when he was selling them they were $69.95 each, I bought the last two he had for $99.00 plus shipping.

Regards,
Rob M.
