Does anyone know how many times Cinnabar has had airbags re-manufactured. And secondly, is there a date manufactured on the airbags or serial number that might indicate a date of manufacture? We have the single airbags on our coach and are trying to determine how old they are and if we should replace them. They are crazed and cracked a little and seem to be leaking slightly at the ends. We think they might be the originals. We also are going to have to check the entire airbags system for leaks. We are leaning towards the original type airbag simple because they are what was on the original coach and there seems to be a variety of small but maybe significant compatibility problems getting other systems and types of airbags to fit and work properly. We are trying to do as much work on our coach ourselves as we can and are mechanically limited but are trying very hard to learn.
Thanks again everyone,

I bought 2 Firestones from them 2 years ago and they were $600 for 2 IIRC. As far as I know this is the first repro. I have found that people complain about repro parts pricing, but few want to put up the big capitol out of pocket to get it done. Nor the hours of corrections, testing and revisions to do a repro that is good enough for me to use on my vehicle ( good as OEM or in some ways better) I have learned this from the Turbo Buick side. Also as soon as you do the above, then someone else is bent on reproing SAME PART, diluting the market and ruining your chance at ROI. This in spite of the fact that there are hundreds of other parts needed to keep the cars alive. I don't get it , but hope we don't do that in the GMCMH community.

Mickey,
The original airbags can show cracks and crazing as well as scuffing and still be very serviceable. The rubber coating was only a protective layer.
One potential source of leaking at the end is the O-ring behind the inlet adapter. The O ring is 7/8 id, 1 and 1/16 od, 3/32 dia.
The adapter can sometimes be difficult to remove to replace the O ring -- bubble soap is a good way to test for leaks around the airbags and the plumbing.

The owner of Cinnabar has disliked International since its inception in
1981 and despised Ralph Luby the founder.
He will tell each and everyone of you that He is the only one qualified on
the GMC Coach.
Last time a person showed up at International, I personally asked him why
he was there when the owner despised the International.
Alex Sirum has no love for him along with 90% of the vendors.
Since most of you do not know the history of the relationship, I suggest
you not entertain the idea of having them come to International Convention.

Please pardon me for saying this but diluting the market is exactly what many of these pieces/parts folks are coming up with on rear suspension stuff as well as other things. Jim K. has invested a pile of $ to bring the quad bag system to market. None of you can say it'sd not the awesome set up, it's safer, a great retrofit to off shelf air bags for the future pus a bonus of increased suspension performance--- only the price is making folks get all this other stuff. Heck, it's a better mouse trap, yea it's more $ but have you ever looked at the set up-- it's a brick &^%$ house! You cannot do better so why do we not support that pile of parts Jim K. has his neck out there making available whey do we not support it? Stop with the "too expensive" stuff-- put on your coach the best part you can find and maybe you can now worry about the rest of the coach--- like how to keep it from being a campfire!
Yea, I'm amped up this morning, I'm doing a talk of RV fire safety for the Monacco group today then we're installing a huge system on a Prevost. He's not worried about the bucks-- he has too much invested to take a chance and he knows it. Heck WE have too much invested in out little critters to take a chance! So I guess it's human nature to try and do things on the cheap and take chances with the things we love-- so be it.
If you dilute this narrow market too much, continue to to what's happening you may find yourself holding your own bag! I'll shut up now and please excuse me for my enthusiasm,
Jim Bounds

I was just giving the pricing on the bags that I remember. So to me the new repro pricing seems in line. In the beginning I used them (Cinnabar) for the work that was beyond my driveway capability, and had some very good and some less satisfying results. I figured out they are not interested in GMCMHI when I saw they had no interest in the Berien rally in same state. Since then I support our circle of vendors first. The statement on repo parts applies across the industry. Even simple things can be a big money and time consumer and more than one group going after the same market really makes you not want to be ready to do the next undertaking at a loss.

My head is spinning... airbags. Is there one document that compares all the rear suspension airbag systems? Basically, it sounds like each system has its advantages. We have a 77 Kingsley. If we were to have an airbag or tire blow going down the highway at 55 mph what is the likelyhood of a really bad situation. We have OEM airbags. With an airbag blowout would the coach immediately bottom out with the tires binding on the upper part of the wheel well? And would a fully blown tire result be the same. Seems to me this is a really important part of the coach and spending a bit more on a quality and safest system is worth it. One thing that is important for us is that we need to be able to lower our coach right down to the frame to get it into our barn. If and when we replace the AC unit we'll have some more leeway, the difference between the standard AC unit and a low profile unit. We've tried to read as much as possible on the different systems but a side by side comparison would be great... wishful thinking?????
Thanks to all that have piped up so far on everything we've asked about...we appreciate it.
