Hey guys Ive got a soft spot in the floor, Ive got the carpet ripped out and the floor looks intact but theres a pretty good dip and soft soft right between the bath/shower and closet on my 1976 Palm Beach. Im trying to determine if I should replace it or not. Does the floor go under the closet and bathroom? If so how would I replace to the floor without removing them?

I never noticed this spot with the carpet and padding but I am going back with vinyl flooring for more cleanliness

Dan,

The floor in a GMC covers the entire floor front to rear and side to side. I did a search of the PhotoSite for you but the only
thing I could find is this picture:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showfull.php?photo=39507

What you're looking as it the cross members that the floor is attached to.

I don't know how you would replace the floor without removing the closet and bathroom.

Regards,
Rob

You might be able to section in a piece of floor if the soft spot gets firm a few inches or more 6" from the cabinets. The floor ribs are perpendicular to the coach length and its possible to scab a strip of plywood as a backer at the other sides if you have enough good wood away from the cabinets/ bathroom wall to glue and screw a 12" wide backer centered under the right and left unsupported seam then go all the way to the factory fore and aft seams at the xmembers. I have the part number for the closest thing to the original floor screws if need be which I sourced at Tacoma screw. Lemmeno

Oh, yes the sheets of plywood run side to side of the coach perpendicular to coach length.

my 77 had the same problem. According to the manual. You can replace just the section that is soft. I simply set the skil saw to less then the depth of the existing plywood and then used a chisel to get the piece out i did a piece large enough to go over both ribs front to back. Not sure if i have pics.

Once you replace everything that is attached to something else. It will all be fixed.

Been thinking about trying the penetrating epoxy on the floor. Maybe I can get away with this for now. Thanks for the diagrams, I definatly do not want to pull the closet and bathroom.
