Yesterday Ken Henderson and I went to Hartwell, GA to finalize the deal on Bill and Jo Telgen's coach (for me). The trip was not without incident, but Ken doesn't think we have insurmountable problems. Everything mechanical is insurmountable to me, a professional worrier.
I'm not going to bore you with day-to-day upgrades and repairs but needless to say, this one was well-taken care and just needs some TLC. Not quite ready for travel.
Elise hasn't moved my clothes out to the coach yet so I guess she's OK with it. She just wishes it was brand new!
The dogs and I might just spend the night out there tonight since she's out of town for a day.

The quadrajet on my 73 came from Bill's coach -- it's like we are now motor-in-laws.
I am glad to know Bill's coach is in good hands -- post some photos when you can.

Thanks Matt and all the others. I wanted to buy a known entity and this coach fit the bill. I have a pesky transmission leak and Ken (and I, I suppose) are still looking for some fuses, relays, breakers, etc.
This coach has a McNeil dash board that looks like it came out of an L-1011. In fact there is an altimeter that has probably seen combat duty. There are gauges and lights and meters that I will have hours of fun trying to figure out.
Documentation is pretty complete, down to the last tank of gas and the last drop of oil. It is a matter of sorting through all the books.
I look forward to asking a lot of questions.

If the trans leak is coming from the passenger side on the ground it could be the over flow that needs a little hook pipe out of the top of the trans
with a rubber tube the runs below the trans or you may have a fire. you can get this from Manny or double jim's. i suppose. but it is a real fire danger.
if this is the leak work on it before you go any where.

Transmission Vent Extension
There is an elbow that will go into the vent hole after removing the vent. You can remove it with a pair of wire cutters by squeezing and lifting. The elbow, GM part number 865-2580 is stocked in Michigan so needs to be ordered but its only 3 or 4 bucks. Anyway, press it down into vent hole and attatch a 1/4" hose to it. If you want a pic of it, let me know off line.Manny
Oil escapes from this vent if the transmission is over filled , during a catistrophic failure of the transmission and some modes of normal operation. The oil then drops directly onto the exaust system and has caused many fires in GMC motor homes'. gene
Wes Caughlan had an article and inexpensive solution for the Trans Vent overflow
problem in the June '98 issue of GMC News. He used 38" of 3/8 "fuel line hose, GM PCV hose # 25508425(for elbows) and vent cap #8460496. Use one of the elbows to attach to vent of transmission, connect with short length of 3/8 copper tube to 3/8 fuel line hose run into aluminum u channel under floor attach vent cap on end. This places the 'vent' out of harms way. Mark

The vent you are looking for is located on top at the front of the transmission. With the engine cover off, if you look down just below the firewall you will see a small metal cap, that is if it is original. This cap is covering the vent tube. This vent is what is replaced with a tube or hose to route transmission fluid away from exhaust and hot parts. The cap is crimped onto a notched steel tube and can be popped off. The tube is pressed into the transmission and can be pulled out. You can attach a moulded rubber 90' elbow to the original tube or replace the tube with a threaded fitting. JR

The way to the find the little vent for the trans is take the top off the motor, put your hand on the edge of the hole close to you middle of the stair.
put your hand in the middle of the edge from passenger seat and drivers seat on the edge close to you point your finger to the road and the vent
is under your finger where it is pointing on top of transmission sort of under your nose as you look straight down at it, back under the stair.
It is hard to find unless you look back under towards the step you have your knees on looking down
through the motor hole. The trans vent is best seen there, you cannot find it from under the gmc, only over on top but back under the stair like

I seriously doubt that Stick's leak is from the vent. It appears, from
examination with hot headers, to be around the governor or speedometer
cable. We'll know soon. I've got to get my GMC ready for a short trip to
FL, then we'll put his on the rack and find the source. I know precisely
where the vent's located.

John - it is probably very similar to the 26-1. I don't know that the rear full size bed was originally that way, but wet bath and refrig on aft passenger side. Dinette forward.
On the driver side the sofa has been replaced with 2 chairs which will probably be replaced with a sofa. Small kitchen then storage behind that.. Not ideal, but I like the larger open area in the forward cabin that was totally consumed by that huge Royale Kitchen. We might even try sleeping together in the double bed, but I doubt that'll be long lasting. We both snore and we both get up several times in the night.
It is cold and rainy here. I'm not much on being outside in cold and rainy and neither is Ken. Elise is ready to start freshening up the inside, but we have some other priorities (family health issues) and some business travel to the condo for a board meeting.
Once the transmission leak is solved, we'll start out with some short treks.

It is funny the dam thing leaks at the over flow even when the thing is not running from something?
It can be parked for a week and i look under it and there was some leaked out from the hose that i have on the spout on the over flow. ???
Must be from expansion and contraction of the weather.
