I am finally out from under the coach and starting to deal with things in the daylight. (Well, alright not quite daylight, but at least I'm stuck on the creeper with the work light shining in my eyes.)
Whilst in the engine room doing normal stuff, I was looking the the condition of vacuum hoses and there is a big one at the after (rear) of the intake manifold. Mine had several visible cracks in the outer jacket. I'm not sure if it was leaking (yet) but as this is the line that runs vacuum to the brake booster, I decided to take it seriously. The way it came off, I know I can't put it back on.....
Admittedly, my coach is older being a '73 (big whup) and lived in a hot climate a lot of its life (SoCal), but that just means that others may have more time.
This hose is a special service. Gates number is 27210 and it isn't cheap. I have found a local source (I believe) and should have the eight feet I need tomorrow. I don't know if JimK stocks this or not, but if this deal falls through, he will be my next call. Right now, I can't move the coach.
Rock Auto will sell you a 50' box for 200$+ shipping.

Matt,
This has been on my to-do list for awhile. I didn't know it was such a "special" or expensive hose. Not unlike fuel lines, though, I was thinking of running some of that Ezi-Bend tubing for a large chunk of the length, and having just short lines of flex hose at the end. And, now that I know how expensive the replacement is, it seems like an even better idea. Any down sides to this that I should think of? (Other than being an even larger PITA than the rubber one).
Thanks,
Craig

Matt,
THANKS!
When I replaced the single check valve OEM booster with double check valve sensitized booster from JimB. One hose was connected to
the manifold the second to the backup vacuum pump. IIRC I used some 3/8" ID fuel line.
Your comment noting that the hose from the booster to the manifold made me realize that I screwed up. Fuel line is not designed for
vacuum it's designed for pressure.
It's been OK for the couple of years it's been installed but it's now on my TTD list to be replaced with the correct line along with
the hose to the manifold.

Guys,I always try to route it up high and I also use a small charcoal filter in line as well
cause the fumes in todays fuel reaks havoc on that poor thin convoluted rubber inside the booster!!!

Rob,
I'll take enough for 4 coaches if you'll bring it to Dothan: For mine,
Alan's, John Beaver's, and, as of tomorrow, Stick's.
If you have too much demand to satisfy all of us, just do what you can.

Ken,
WOW, that was fast! I should have doubled the price and made a few bucks! ;-)
Me = 16 ft
JohnS = 8 ft
SteveS = 8 ft
KenH = 8 ft
AlanH = 8 ft
JohnB = 8 ft
StickM = 8 ft
Total = 64 ft
I'll order two rolls that will give me enough for 4 more people at Dothan.
I'll be happy to order more and send them to anybody that's not coming to Dothan too. I reckon they would fit in a USPS $12.35
Priority Mail medium flat rate boxes.

I thank you, Rob! My son thanks you! My friends thank you!
And if any of them don't want to pay me, I'll resell it at Dothan too. :-)
(But if you don't want to fool with the second roll, just drop us off as
necessary.)

Anthony,
I like the thought, but in the coach, the line goes up underneath against the cockpit floor out to the front bulkhead where it loops up another 6~8" vertical to get to the booster. That may just be why the GMC boosters last so well.

The filter is about $8 and available from NAPA #675-5136, probably available from others also. It is an "order from warehouse" item from the local NAPA's. (Although at one local NAPA in Milwaukee it only takes 10 minutes to get it from the warehouse as the store is on the front of the warehouse.)

I was just making an observation. It is not that expensive, is probably a good candidate for replacement, and is not as useless as a pet rock.
It was amazing how many people jumped on the band wagon.
Maybe I'm just jealous that Rob cornered the GMC vacuum hose concession. TIC
